Amagansett, New York (Nappeague)
The views of the ocean from the second floor and the roof, plus the strange condition of building right behind a sand dune...
Contemporary beach house
The roof deck. There is nothing better than sitting in the hot tub at sunset, cocktail in hand, looking at the waves to the south and the kites from the kite surfers over in Nappeague Bay to the north.
What Friends Say:
They love the casual vibe of the house. The interiors are comfortable, minimal, clutter-free, and light-filled. It’s a very relaxing place to be, especially when everyone gathers in the great room around the table for a meal. The sunsets are spectacular from that room.
Having people stay in the house when there were not yet doors on the rooms… I had already rented the house as a summer share before I finished construction. It made for some close quarters.
The whole house was DIY. I designed it myself and built it from scratch. It took about a year, but has been worth all of the sweat equity I put into it.
The hot tub on the roof. That thing spoils you pretty quickly. I also love the outdoor shower right outside the master bedroom. There is nothing like showering under the blue sky or stars. Plus, the water pressure is fantastic so you never want to get out.
When a builder who is helping advise you build the house says “Oh, you are one of those guys putting ten pounds of sh*t in a five pound bag”
— meaning I was being way overambitious with the limited resources at hand…
I would love to go to ABC carpet and buy a new couch for the great room. The one I have now was a hand-me-down from my parents.
