Better late than never. A reader recently asked why we take all the time to blog H&H and we had to say that - as much as it is a bear to blog - we think of it as such a valuable resource that we don't want to lose the links into the ether. Often, when we search for something on the site, the info is in H&H Roundup. Also, not EVERYONE gets a chance to read the paper edition, so we think of this as a nicely edited version for all of you far from NYC. We hope most folks agree.
TOP STORIES
- For the 'Orchid' Lady, a Design Hothouse: A beautiful house, far from NYC, by James Cutler, one of Bill Gates's architects.
- Double Nesters: Interesting article that focuses on how many people now really maintain two homes at once. This strikes us as great news for the furniture business.
- Q. I'd like to replace the ugly light fixtures in my bathroom. Is there anything I need to know? ST answers this and gives a thumbs up to full-spectrum bulbs.
- Smarter Homes - Battening Down and Wising Up: At the Int'l Builders Show BM gives us the lowdown on a host of new luxurious appliances soon to be seen at your rich friend's house.
- Stained Glass in an Instant - Plastic Panel Mimics Look of Bygone Era: Decorative window panels look like stained glass by The Pella Corporation.
- Personal Shopper - Rug Roundup: MR finds some beautiful rugs (mainly from the Rug Company) and tries hard to keep the prices down.
CURRENTS
- Lulu de Kwiatkowski's new Tatoo leather pillows for Elite.

I don't live in NYC and am very happy to see your summary of H&H. It does provide valuable resources and a different perspective on topics not always covered here. Please keep it.
In the NY Times posting check out the "Stylish Studio" slide show.
Beautiful space!

I enjoy the roundup too.
On the matter of the people with 2 homes...I can't imagine decorating them the same...doesn't that ruin the fun?
Don't we get to vote on this issue of H&H? I thought it was great.
I always, ALWAYS try to buy the Thursday NYT. Sometimes I'm foiled, though, by nearby newsstands running out or just forgetting that it's Thursday. (I miss the old version of Circuits!)
Really enjoy reading other peoples' takes on H&H, and just seeing H&H mentioned here is a great memory-bump to check it out online before it goes behind the TimesSelect archive wall.
Incidentally, there is a service for bloggers that provides non-expiring links to NYT content. Maxwell, you might consider using this so that people can seamlessly go back to see older NYT H&H articles.
You can find it here:

Duplicating residences strikes me as both insecure and impersonal.
If you have the money you can do it but as Christine implied it demonstrates a lack of fun, and unwillingness to stretch even a teensy weensy bit.
Actually, I can imagine a world where one might feel the need for all their homes to function in certain similar kinds of ways.
If you have a very small child or if a family member is an Alzheimer patient I think that reproducing an environment might have a lot going for it. Or if someone has some eyesight that's going.
I see every new empty space as chock full of possibilities, and then one by one, enjoy figuring out each thing that will make it liveable but, to the extent possible, on its own terms. That really is half the fun.
