Ah, spring has finally sprung. And the first outdoor project on my list? Painting my house number on the transom over the front door. I've been looking around the web for a little inspiration. Here are some favorites I've found:
These examples are all very traditional in nature, which is where I'm leaning, too. However, do you think there's a chance here to introduce a little modernism with the font? My place ish a colonial-style home with divided lites in the transom (four lites, four digits in the house number).
When I complete the project, I'll report back here to you!

I like #3 the best. Looking forward to seeing what yours looks like!
Apparently great minds think alike – I was just thinking about doing that this past weekend.
Lots of fantastic examples of this in Cambridge, MA. I like that it does not require use of exterior lighting to illuminate the numbers at night.
Ours is sandblasted onto our single pane transom; glass etching cream could do the same job.
I'm going to do the same except that I'm ordering vinyl print numbers from a sign shop. I have a little half-circle window over my front door. I've been wanting to do this for a long time.
I would love to have a transom to paint numbers on!
Hi all. I live on Capitol Hill in Washington DC and had the same desire. Looking around at what was out there was disappointing so I decided to start a company that does transom numbers in gold, metallic and premium cast vinyl. Please see what we have to offer at www.housenumberlab.com. As far as putting a little modern into your address number, we've got that and more. Let me know if you have any questions at glenn@housenumberlab.com
Hi. My husband found a great company on the web www.fanlightnumbers.co.uk. They had lots of different colors to choose from. We went for silver as it really went with our door. They've got a gallery on their site. Worth a look!!!
