Name: Wayne & Daniel
Location: Fayetteville, Arkansas
Size: 995 square feet
Years lived in: 10 months
Wayne tells us that he has two passions — design and food. He works in sales, as a freelance writer for The Fayetteville Gazette and as a food blogger while awaiting his "dream profession" of contributing to his favorite shelter mags and sites. In the meantime, he's gotten busy setting up his dream home.

One of Wayne's favorite magazines is House Beautiful so it comes as no surprise that the color palettes he used throughout his recently purchased 1959 home were inspired by none other than HB's food and lifestyle guru Ina Garten's Hampton Barn....done on a budget. He tells us: "I loved the light gray color that Ina Garten had in her new barn on Barefoot Contessa. I found out that it was Farrow and Ball's Light Gray. At about $125 a gallon, it was out of our range. However, I had Benjamin Moore match their t op quality paint to it and found that their "Berkshire Beige" was a perfect match. That paint ran us about $35 a gallon." Smart and stylish!

Apartment Therapy Survey:
My/Our style: Comfortable Classic
Inspiration: Ina Garten's Hamptons Barn (That's were we stole the Living Room/Kitchen colors from)
Favorite Element: The restored hardwood floors
Biggest Challenge: The house is very small. When purchased, the house was occupied by a couple who had painted everything with bright primary colors. After 4 coats of paint and 2 coats of primer, we finally were able to bring the colors into our personality. Our hope was that each of the colors were both fresh yet grounded. The other major challenge is the one bath. We plan on expanding one day...but for now, it works fine for two people.
What Friends Say: That the house appears effortless and comfortable. The first is wishful, but the second is a compliment.
Biggest Embarrassment: Ah the backyard is in deep need of a garden...coming in the spring, thanks to our new backyard botanical contained garden unit.
Proudest DIY: Framing out the windows and also framing out the cutout between the kitchen and living room. I normally hate these sort of cut-outs but with this one...I actually wanted to turn it into a large window sill that we could display stuff on. Its great during the holidays to hold stockings or pumpkins etc. It's a great way to turn it into something cool...instead of having it look like a diner.
Biggest Indulgence: Pottery Barn Bedding...we have three different quilts. On a personal note, a free indulgence for me is shelving built into the kitchen to hold my ever growing cookbook collection.
Best advice: Color is everything. We wanted colors that were natural and timeless. We also wanted colors that had great depth and seem to change depending on the light. Once the colors were in place, the rest of the house seemed to come to life.
Dream source: We are huge fans of House Beautiful, Hampton's Homes and Gardens Magazines, and of course...Pottery Barn/Williams-Sonoma Home.

Awwwwww...Such a beautiful home and Beautiful Dog.
I love the simplicity of the home.
I love your dog, is it a wheaten?
sweet space & sweet dog. esp. like the colors, esp. the 2nd bedroom with the green bedding!
I second loving the grey/green color scheme in the guest bedroom! Looks fresh and original.
I'm in love with this house and haven't even looked through the tour yet
so sad that they only get lemons for supper.....
I have a photo of my dog in the exact same pose.
Thank god it's not just me...
Holy cutest dog ever, Batman!
I believe that is a Yorkshire terrier.
I want to snorgle your puppeh! Lovely house too ;-)
The puppy! The puppy!!! So sweet! The house is lovely too!
From the comments this sound more like a dog tour than a house tour.
This seems to be a repost? I recall seeing this months ago...
That is the cutest dog ever!!!
Looks really nice - I keep seeing cords hanging over beds?? Ceiling fans? or is that to summon the maid?
LOVE the house. :) I know the owners, and it's been so fabulous to see where the live through one of my favorite blogs.
My favorite is the green and grey guest room - i love how the colors fill the space and the sheen of the fabric plays well with the light.
The house is nice but i love the pooch! Green/Grey bedroom... different... I like it.
I love the floors too. The color choices are perfect, really really good. The ceiling light in the computer room is great. The whole thing is put together lovely, but it looks like a real home. And of course that dog is adorable.

May I suggest the creation of a pet-related design blog ("thedoghous"? "bowdeewow"?) to our AT overlords? It seems that there's quite an audience for such a thing.
Very cozy! I see myself curled up on your sofa with a good book :)
This is really charming. Well done, gentlemen. Even the muted colors are warm and lovely. And as others have mentioned, your dog is adorable. :)
Honestly, there's nothing really special here. The whole house feels sort of generic to me. That Kitchen? Meh. And so much Green! The exterior and the interior? Cute Dog though...
MrReindeer, that is your opinion. What I like about this home is that they took a cookie-cutter 50s ranch and put their own stamp on it--making it tasteful and sophisticated and personal. I'm sure in time they could do more to the exterior and the kitchen. There are many of us who can't just move into a house and rip everything out that is dated or not to our taste. Part of what's great about this site (and posts like this) is seeing how people can work with what they've got and realize a vision without bazillions of dollars to spend.
The only shot I would have left out is the office...it just doesn't seem to have been "done" yet and is pretty cluttered.
Oh, that cute doggie!
hi wayne and daniel!
do you recall where you purchased those yellow polka dot placemats? thanks!
krunkinator,
Good memory - this house was featured in January: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/chicago/house-tours/wayne-daniels-first-homehouse-call-105590
Agree with matchjames--too much stuff-although I like the living room paint. Also framed prints are placed too high on the wall.
You both have done a wonderful job and like and like everyone else your dog is adorable. Well done
I'm in love with the exterior paint color. Perfect.
I keep coming back to the bedroom. I would not have thought to combine the green and the gray in that way, but it works! Hmmmmm.
I love the gray and green bed room.
