Name: Karli Kane Hendrickson and pup Olive
Location: West Side, Providence, Rhode Island
Size: 659 square feet
Years lived in: Renting 1 year

Karli lives in a cozy apartment in a larger house inhabited entirely by female artists. On the first floor are two musicians in the Providence band Secret Circle, on the second floor is Muffy Brandt who runs a very successful Etsy shop. Karli's a graphic designer, illustrator and art director and resides on the third floor in a bright, creative space.

Being surrounded by creatives isn't new to Karli; she comes from a family of artists. Her dad is a photographer and photography professor, and her mom is a painter and elementary school art teacher. Not surprisingly, much of the artwork in her home is created by her or by friends and family. Karli describes what she loves about her home:

"I love my little third floor apartment in the West Side of Providence. The pitched ceilings remind me of my childhood bedroom, which was a finished attic. The apartment is bright with just enough space for me, my graphic design studio, and my little pup Olive.

My studio is full of inspiration for my newest interest: hand painted signs. I am a graphic designer and art director by day, so I love having an outlet that is design related, but allows me time away from the computer and to get my hands dirty.

Two prized possessions are the vintage Marimekko fabric stretched and hung in my living room (oak leaves and acorns) that I inherited from my grandmother Mimi. The other prized possession is a vintage tablecloth map of America that my other grandmother Grammy embroidered my cross-country road trip route on. I sent her postcards every stop so she could track my progress, and she did so by embroidering the tablecloth and gave it to me as a gift upon my return. I hang it over my work desk now."

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style: Colorful and eclectic

Inspiration: A little '70s, a little Swedish inspired and a lot of plants.

Favorite Element: My favorite thing about this apartment is the light and my lovely neighbors.

Biggest Challenge: My biggest challenge was getting all my furniture up the tight, twisting stairs to the third floor!

What Friends Say: That my apartment is a colorful nest

Biggest Embarrassment: I worry my collections boarder on hoarding!

Proudest DIY: Learning how to make macramé plant hangers. I started making them for friends and selling them!

Biggest Indulgence: I generally get all my furniture from thrifts stores, craigslist and the curb! But for this apartment I really needed more storage, so I indulged in a simple platform bed with drawers.

Best Advice: Surround yourself with things that make you smile.

Dream Sources: The Jungalow!
