Name: Jon and Jessie
Location: St. Catharines — Ontario, Canada
Size: 1,700 square feet
Years lived in: 2 years, owned

Jon and Jessie bought their home knowing they would be filling it with lots of DIY projects in every room. Jessie's love for light and simple spaces is nicely complemented by Jon's desire for modern, darker decor. With help from their families — and lots of inspiration from Pinterest — the couple was able to create a space just as unique as they are.

Their personality is perfectly represented by the one-of-a-kind art, customized projects and overall warm feel found in the home. Jon and Jessie did a good job keeping their home full of on-trend decor, while remaining true to themselves and not being kitschy.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style: Industrial, Farmhouse, Modern

Inspiration: Both of our styles mixed together. Jon likes more of a modern style with darker elements and I like cozy light colors and simplicity.

Favorite Element: We love the light with the large windows. Our wagon wheel table that my papa built has always been a big focal point in our living space as well. Jon loves the "You are O.K" painting I painted for him, too!

Biggest Challenge: Always wanting to do more and constantly wanting to update the spaces of our home. We already have plans for our main bathroom.

What Friends Say: "Help me decorate?" or "Where did you find that?"

Biggest Embarrassment: The outside of our house. We currently have plans to paint and add a large porch. It took us a whole summer already to put in our back fence.

Proudest DIY: Our church pew bench! We love it and it was a huge struggle for us to put together. We DIY a lot of different things since stuff is generally really expensive and it's always nice to throw a personal project into a space.

Biggest Indulgence: Rugs, throw pillows and fake plants.

Best Advice: Don't rush! At first I just wanted everything to be finished but ended up finding better items suited for the space later on. Now I know to take my time and keep an eye out for those specific items that will make our space come together just right.

Dream Sources: Homesense, Ikea, and Jon's family helps us build a lot
