If we won the lottery, we'd have a sleek, modern city home and a casual home by the water. Seeing this family retreat off the coast of Seattle made us seriously yearn for the latter. Lots of windows, light, a windowseat, a fireplace nook, built-in bookcases... oh, and a "writer's hut." Drool.
The homeowners have adult children, and the five structures and barn are perfect for the family to have communal dinners, etc., but also separate spaces.

um, AT? i love you and all but...
whats the point of calling something a House Tour when all you're doing is posting the pages of another magazine and then shooing us to their site if we want to see "larger" (meaning big enough to actually enjoy) photos...??
unless...you've started to get kickdowns from all of these "House Tours". cause we've all noticed how fancy they're getting lately...And while i tooootally love a fancy home (I'm a total voyeur and interiors are my porn!), I think that the majority of AT readers would rather see something a bit more tangible, a bit more relatable.
yes, we all want to be inspired. yes, we all like to drool over the occasional chic loft that was designed over the phone, or the Palm Springs vacation home that was decorated by an It Designer, or the lake-side retreat that we'd buy if we won the lottery...but just quit calling it a House Tour. I don't know, call it something like "Let's See What's On The Market That You Can't Afford Right Now" or "Here's What I'd Do With A Lot Of Money And A Professional Designer" or "When I Can Afford To Live Here, I'll Fly Everyone Out For Drinks!"
I hope I'm not coming across as a total wiener, cause I genuinely love AT (hence the well-natured ribbing and not red-faced ranting). it's just that we've come to know and love Home Tours as a peek into one of our fellow-reader's homes...and that to me is WAY more inspiring and exciting that something I can see in an edited glossy.
Yes goodnightdean, I agree. It seems like too many recent "House Tours" have been from a mag and more than a little fancy. I love AT but I miss me some of the AT House Tours of old. They are the reason I became addicted to AT in the 1st place...
