Take a cue from some of these past House Tours and add a bit of color to your outdoor area - it's a totally simple way to add personality to your front or back porch year-round.
In Sara and Oliver's Treetop Bungalow Revisited, the homeowners used bold, red bottles as vases to add a bit of a statement to their serene table-top. In Sara and Michael's Bohemian Salvage House Tour, the couple combined a bright, blue chair with an orange wooden table and kelly green planter to add pizzaz to their plant-filled patio. In Maria's "Oh So You" Bungalow Tour, Maria made an inviting entranceway by adding cheery (and seemingly inexpensive to make) pots to the walkway of her home, proving that even if you don't have a sprawling backyard, you can make an outdoor impression with just a few punchy accessories.

Hmmmm. I'm inspired. I wonder what I can do with my back patio ... and no budget to speak of? Oh well. Guess I'll have to be uber creative! Shame. ;)
Ooh! I totally know of an old chair that I can paint and put on my terrace... Thanks for the ideas!
I can't wait til weather warms up. I paid a landscaping service $$$ last summer to level my backyard, have retaining walls built, and lay down sod. No more money left for plants or anything else.
This spring, I hope to get to builing a gravel and paver walkway, building a tool shed, plantings, furnishings, other decorative accents, etc. This part of the backyard project will be DIY, unlike the backbreaking first part.
Furniture suitable for verandas and patios is easy to find curbside. I have completely furnished my large covered front porch and back patio both with eating and sitting areas for free, other than spray paint and second hand cushions from thrift stores. A total of 9 chairs, 4 side tables and 2 dining tables, plus 2 weathered benches for plant pots.
But if you DO have the budget for upscale outdoor furniture, Seasonal Living has a fantastic spring line! I just saw a preview of what they'll be showing @ High Point market week in April and it's to die for. Sigh.
#7, get in my belly.
I'm from the beach, live in a big city, and apparently want to live in a cottage in the woods. Who knew. At least it can't possibly have more mosquitos than Queens...
Any chance AT writers would consider giving the word "pop," when used in reference to colour, a hiatus for . . . oh, let's say ten years or so?
I just painted my picnic table marigold. Love the brights outside.
We have a tiny, foggy, bricked in and surrounded by siding patio/backyard. Painting our furniture turquoise and getting a red outdoor rug is MAKING it as we wait for our tiny plants to bloom.
This post really inspired me. We replaced some rotted posts on our patio a while ago, but never painted them. I'm thinking I'll go with turquoise this weekend!
