I'm very much also a packrat who hides things. container store has great options for this sorta stuff!

Great space! So bright, light and cozy. I love the slantyness of the walls. It's amazing what white walls and floor can do for a space. Those Swedes know a thing or two!

Paint the duct blue. Ok ok, I mean white.

Wonderful space, the juxtaposition of the seductive wood and elegant lines of the furniture against the stark white walls, ceeling and floors helps move one through the space finding anchors along the way.

The little hits of blue are also quite nice as they provide just enough light heartedness and exclamation to an otherwise very sophisticated space.

I'm in love. The white walls & floors with the wood furniture and the splashes of blue - yum! It just looks so - clean and pure. Aaaaaahhhh.

I have the same cone and I love it! It's perfect for throwing all your odds and ends in that you (meaning I) normally misplace. (For Veronica- you can get the cones at Ikea in a few different colors.)

Really beautiful...all the white makes your lovely wood furniture really stand out. It's simple & clean, but feels like a cozy hideaway.

I love this, and it has a wonderful sense of peace and refuge about it-- but the placement of the stove , with the slanted ceiling right above it, gives me the wibblies-- it looks very unsafe. But other than that, you've done a marvelous job with this space.

this place is fantastic! i love the slanty walls and general triangularity of the space. and the light! so far my favorite house tours for lighting have been in chicago. additionally, i adore the combination of white, wood, and the touch of plant life. modern, yet organic.

my only advice to you would be that, as you branch out away from IKEA and towards more modern and high end pieces, remember that it is possible to get furniture (lovely and stylish furniture) that was not designed by Charles and/or Ray Eames. or knocked off from same. i love every piece you have, individually, but i think it's a lot all together. especially in such a small space. i do, however, really like the way you've integrated these iconic pieces in with IKEA and less showy midcentury stuff. especially the couch. what a couch!

oh, and that seating arrangement would be just that much sweeter if you were able to find a matching side table for that baby one you've got on the rug there. or something the same size but ever so slightly different.

Seriously, if Joe's mother really posted the above then this is the single greatest thread ever to be posted.

I never read other peoples' posts until after I've finished "taking the tour." That way I don't go into it with a bias. But yet after looking at your place, I am came to the same conclusion as most other people--your place is so clean, bright, and minimal and yet so thoughtful and purposeful as to still seem very cozy and welcoming, which is just masterful in my book.

You must be excellent at hiding stuff, because I can hardly find even a hint of clutter! :)

PS: Is it all in the ducting maybe?

No doubt it's a beautiful space and I love minimal, but personally, the all-white and encroaching slanted ceilings/walls feels clinical to me. Even the blue cone and file cabinet make me think of doctor scrubs. Everything is brown/beige/white... chair, couch, tables—down to the framed photos and bookshelves. I somehow wish the floor was natural wood color to break up the encircling white.

I love the red chair... how about more red? Like a nice big, round, shiny, red table with white chairs? (However, I do love the table.)

The computer desk area seems so crammed into that slanted wall... I would love to see it along the window-side of the wall where you could look out from time to time. But, I'm guessing that tall bookcase wouldnt' fit under the ceiling.

I do love how you separated the bedroom area with those curtains.. great job! :) Feels nice and zen.

I'm generally not a fan of the icy-white look, but here it works wondrously, opening up the space and banishing any claustrophobic tendencies of the slanting walls. Your home truly does feel cozy and welcoming. Painting the floors white, in addition to the walls = a master stroke. And yes, you winkle away the clutter like a conjurer. Bravo!

I love this! Such a beautiful job and how ironic - I just moved into a space in New York along the Hudson River with the same skylights (I have 2 side by side) - my place is wider and has more flat ceiling - I have an idea of how much you must love your home. Seeing the sky and, in my case the Hudson River, is breathtaking. Yup, the treehouse feel is quite special. Nice respite after a crazy day.

I never thought I'd love the angles and skylights as much as I do. Your ultra white theme is fabulous; I have some dark wood grounding mine, and black and white art, but that's me. I would imagine your place has nice shadows at night with the lighting and the angles.

I too am not a fan of all white interiors, but I love the white in your place. It just opens up the space, unifies it, and makes it look ethereal and transcendent. I do love floorboards painted white - are they hard to keep clean? I've thought about ripping the carpet out of my bedroom and doing white floorboards. The white also makes this small place look dramatic. I think it makes it look bigger because it looks so unified.

this just makes me realize how futile my "let's only keep what i need" attemps are. also that i'm a packrat, one who's not so good at hiding things.

I like the duct dark. Gives perspective to the room. Otherwise might be too inside a ping pong ball feeling.

if you had to, how did you convince the landlord to let you paint the floors white? i wish sometimes i do anything i wanted in these apartments, including ridiculous wallpaper that only a handful of people could insanely appreciate.
