Name: Terry Kidder & Shawn Peacock
Location: Amagansett, New York
Size: 3 Bedrooms + Den (2,500 square feet)
Who else lives here: Zoe the cat
After a popular Apartment Therapy House Call, Terry and Shawn are sharing an all out tour. So even though it’s cold outside, take a moment to sun yourself by their Amagansett pool.
The two have pulled together their eclectic tastes to create a beach home that’s modern with a retro throwback — I imagine this is a place where someone like Peter Allen might have summered. Both Shawn and Terry work in advertising, and some of the furnishings come from the sets of TV shoots (the Chiffon curtains can be seen in a Garnier Nutrisse ad with Sarah Jessica Parker).
One of the biggest questions from the House Call was whether the photos were doctored to make the colors pop? The homeowners assured me the colors are true to their hue. In fact, Terry invites all the nonbelievers to swing by for a batch of his world famous florescent green Mojitos.
My/Our style: Retro (50's−60's), Eclectic, Malibu Modern
Inspiration: The tones of nature which are like part of the interior due to all the glass. That and Hollywood sets of the 50's−60's.
Favorite Element: All the glass, which really makes light an integral element of the interior aura. And high, open ceilings.
Biggest Challenge: Maintaining a modernist's clean white look amongst a forest of gunk producing trees (Oak in particular). Also maintaining a full garden with an ever increasing deer population. Is it a garden or a salad bar? Both, we're afraid.
What Friends Say: Most friends love it, but more traditional leaning ones don't get the wit and whimsy of our kitsch factor.
Biggest Embarrassment: The need for interior painting and exterior staining.
Proudest DIY: The re-staining of our white deck.
Biggest Indulgence: Renovating the kitchen.
Best advice: Don't sweat making everything matchy-matchy. For us, the home is about the energy and fun created by mixing all things you love (judiciously, of course).

Sprout Side Table
Great house. The pool and patio are heavenly. I like most of their decorating choices. Their personality really comes through.
Nice to see the rest of this house - the pool and kitchen are a dream...
...but IMO that mirrored wall in the living room is just too much - I think I'd either layer framed mirrors and/or paintings over it or get rid of it altogether.
A little trippy. Mostly amazing, as in "whoa, didn't know that could work" amazing.
eek! yeah, i am not feeling that mirrored wall either. the house is so open and spacious it does not really need the mirror to give the appearance of more size. to me the mirror just doubles the clutter.
although an interesting color choice I am not too keen on the green blacksplash in the kitchen. i wonder if it would hurt resale value since unlike painted walls, backsplashes can be expensive to replace.
nice pool area! I am liking the green lounge chairs.
I love the kitchen cabinets! What are they?
So, green then?
I like how the majority of the house comes together, and the pool and yard are gorgeous yet unpretentious. However, those bedroom walls! Way too neon for me.
The outside is picture perfect. The interior is an acid trip from the 60's.
Love the kitchen cabinets!
Are the kitchen cabinets hickory wood? I love them!
Also, I have that picture next to the window in the bedroom. It was a great Ikea find from a few years back.
Love many elements of this house but I'm not so sure the kitchen cabinets were a wise choice, looks too busy for the space IMO.
Loved the rest of the house, including the orange bedroom but that green bedroom was just too much as I'm not a green person except in very small doses and it has to be the right shade of green to work for me in the first place.
Love the garden and pool, very nice, however I get the sense from the outside that the house was built in either the late 70's or early 80's but still looks great even today
The bedroom colors are a little too vibrant for me, but I thought the living/dining area was lovely. I love that you guys have so many houseplants--they add color and freshness to a mostly neutral decor (red pops aside) and echo the views of the greenery outdoors.
The kitchen cabinets don't do it for me. Hard to tell about the rest of the house because someone overdid Photoshop's "saturate" enhancement.
I am impressed with the kitchen the most. Great relationship between that natural feel of the cabinet faces and the stark pulls, floor tile, counter top and appliances. Great use of different textures and materials.
Great work!
While I like the patio and pool area, and a few of their items I wouldn't mind stealing for myself, I couldn't imagine having to spend the night enclosed in those neon-colored bedrooms.
Those kitchen cabinets are certainly an acquired taste. Way too much wood for me.
I do like your patio/pool area. Very calming.
I have serious pool envy.
Terry and Shawn know how to use color to get a full effect. I especially love the cabinetry in the kitchen and the pool layout and design. Great work!

Too much photoshop in these pics... Makes it very difficult to tell what the colors actually are! I would like to see the originals without all the saturation though.
lovin' the kitchen... the green backsplash really pops & i love the contrast of natural wood grain with the stainless steal appliances... what a vibrantly ethnic bedroom... diggin' everything except the picture over the bed ~ it seems out of place. i would have liked to see mounded artifacts (such as a African masks).... but that's just me.
Wow - beautiful! I really love that green bedroom especially - what is the color on the wall? It's so vibrant and awesome. I also love the turquoise love seat in the living room. The whole place is colorfully superb, daring and inspiring!
Love this!
Wow. Not my style. At. All. To me this is a cluttered mis-match kitsch and more clutter. There is so much going on my eyes can't breathe. I'd love to see what Sparrow & Kurt could do with this space.
Not a fan of the house but the garden looks nice.
The kitchen cabinets are BEAUTIFUL. That's wood at its best, in my opinion.
Love the living room, den, kitchen and outdoors areas. The bedrooms not so much...
lol I surprised they featured this house again with the same "intense" photos. Beautiful idea of the place though. That pool is calling my name :)
I love the green backsplash in the kitchen and the intense colors in the bedrooms. Hooray for real color!
absolutely love the living areas, the patios and the kitchen! wow... but the green and orange bedrooms were a little harsh on my eyes, but as long as the homeowners are happy, that's all that matters!
the house has some great elements
Totally fun, I esp. love the green Adirondack chairs.
gorgeous outdoors.
The only appealing thing about this home is the gorgeous garden and outdoor area. I guess I just expect more from AT than a mismatch of colors and 1990 decor.
Great outdoor spaces, the interiors don't really work for me. Kitchen seems very heavy and cramped while the bedroom feels 1980's.
Very nice home. At first I didn't realize that you had a mirrored wall and I thought I was viewing a tag sale - the room just seemed like it had too much stuff. It probably works better in person. The colors are nice. You are killing me with the pool shots. Sigh. Not fair.
It think it's a great place! Love the new and vintage furniture and pops of color! Where did you get those green dining chairs with nailhead trim?! Love them!!
