Name: Judy Ross
Location: Union Square — New York City, New York
Size: 700 square feet
Years lived in: 18 years, renting

It's no wonder Judy's apartment is flawless; the accomplished textile designer's space is a stage for her art. Located in the buzzing Union Square area in Manhattan, Judy manages to keep a cool, chic and totally under-control apartment that works for her busy family. This is no easy feat - especially in a smallish space - given that she lives with her two teenage sons. (The eldest is just heading off to college.)

The mostly white space comes to life with plentiful pops of color and textiles throughout, often designed by Judy herself, but supplemented by pieces from artists she admires. We toured Judy's apartment back in 2013 and love seeing how's she updated the space. Take a peek back in time...

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style: Modern, chic, simplicity...to show off my textiles and my art collection.

Inspiration: Scandinavian design

Favorite Element: The views from each of the rooms. My apartment overlooks a massive common terrace that is landscaped with a large area of grass, trees, plants and outdoor grilling space. To make it even more surreal, beyond that is a view of water towers and roof tops. At sunset, it is quite beautiful to see the terrace garden below against a skyline of water tower silhouettes and a pink sunset.

Biggest Challenge: Fitting all the stuff of two boys and myself in a small apartment and keeping it clutter free!

What Friends Say: Friends always love how my apartment tells a lot about my history through the objects I have collected and displayed. They also enjoy my art collection. Lastly...how open and organized it is!

Biggest Embarrassment: The excessive over-the-top amount of Eres underwear and bathing suits I have!

Proudest DIY: The embroidered sheer silk panel that I made for my bedroom window.

Biggest Indulgence: A recent art purchase of a Howard Hodgkin print at the Armory show this week! I love this artist and since I cannot afford a painting, this was the next best thing.

Best Advice: Less is more, pop color with your accessories and textiles.

Dream Sources: Art... Ron Gorchov paintings, Leger, Marsden Hartley, and Lee Krasner
