We're rerunning this house tour from yesterday due to technical difficulties. The slideshow was broken but now it should be in fine working order. Our deepest apologies.
Name: Bill's Grandpa
Size: 2000 sqft
Years lived in: Built in 1900

In honor of the last week of escapes month at Apartment Therapy, today's house tour is a serious escape. The house is on an island with access only to its residents and their guests. It's a home that was made by hand by the patriarch of the family over a century ago, and it still holds most if not all of its original charms!
True to its original design, the house retains its lack of electricity and running water. The foundation and the contents are home made and yet, it still manages to host offshoots of the expanding family year after year! Here's to skill, longlasting, quality design, and a very simple lifestyle!

it's throes, not throws
lovely place! where exactly is it though?
I'm having a really good time imagining what the last throws of summer look like. Do they come in baseball pinstripes and tight pants? Or are they the acrobatic releases of ultimate frisbee players? Thanks, Jill for these lovely images.
Not working for me either.
I'm sorry, but no electricity and running water is NOT a vacation for me.
Sounds like the Thimble Islands to me...... what a great thing to remain in the family. I stayed at a house built on its very own island and it was fantastic. Thanks for sharing.
Sorry - I fixed it just now! We should have seen this earlier. so sorry.
Fixed for me.
It worked for me, and what a cool old house! Does it get really cold in the winter, since it's so close to the water?
could it be any more of a perfect getaway? sheeeeesh
