Q: I've moved into a new apartment where I've divided my living room for double duty as a home office where I work from. One of the problems I've run into is the cable internet connection running from the hallway into the living room; the cable is not only an eyesore, but also easy to trip over. I currently have it hung over and around the doorway, but it's really ugly. Any suggestions?

Editor: I've done a lot of cord and cable covering in my time, so I understand your pain in regards to unsightly connections spanning from one room to another. Sometimes you need to run an extension cord or cable connection from one room to another, especially if you live in an older home or apartment.
For doorway cord and cable highways from one room to another, consider using one of these Chordsavers; they're made of PVC, hide away cords and cables when you need them to transition from one room to another, and most importantly reduce the chance of tripping.

Big box hardware stores sell co-axil cables (the cords). Just buy longer ones and run them along the baseboard instead. I use 25 foot co-axil cable so I can put my TV on the other side of the room. It gets the signal just fine.
I bought white coaxial cables and white extension cords/surge protectors.. then painted it to match the baseboards and trim.. used some tack staples to hold it to the wall.. around the room.. the other option is run it under a rug and up a leg of the desk/table on the inside.. can't even see it on my desk..
Simple: Call the cable company and have them run the cable from outside into the room where your TV will be connected. Or through the walls. They'll send a technician and it should be covered in your moving fee. Get the landlord's permission.
I too recommend moving the connection. My husband and I have done it several times in our '50s house and it can be tricky, but it's so much nicer than having cords all over the place.
if thats not an option, and you just so happen to have cork floors, we ran our cords underneath and just replaced the tiles. good luck!
Agree with those who have suggested moving the connection.
If not, hardware stores have little u-shaped clips that you can use to tack the cords along the baseboard. Also like that cord-saver thing although I think I'd trip over it too... Better to have the cords at the edges of the room, even if you have to buy longer cords.
My landlord was in the process of renovating the sitting room before we moved in (we got to see in while it was still in the works) and asked that the connection lines be run from the basement to the other side of the room.
Bar moving the connection sites, I would have the lines run around the outside of the room and then paint them to match the baseboards. Just make sure that they are securly tacked along in regular intervals and that they are pulled snug along the baseboard so it doesn't look sloppy. I think my husband once ran the lines under the carpets in his bachelor pad but it looks like you have beautiful hardwood floors so that might be difficult...
Wireless internet? If its the tv cable, scrap that and get a roku :)
Tape it to the floor and have a rug over it, if you can.
