Q: I have a small half bedroom at the back of my apartment. I'm looking to make it function as a home office, and a comfortable lounge. The space is a little awkward because it it serves as an exit to the back garden, and the room connects to both the bedroom and the bathroom. I would love to get a comfy lounge chair, a sheep skin rug, and maybe an ottoman to use the room as a relaxation space instead of just an office:

The problems I'm have are:
1. What kind of chair would fit best in the space, both physically and with the design of the room?
2. Where can I position the chair to not block traffic to to the outdoor garden and into the other rooms?
The things that I cannot change are the desk and the color of the room. I'm open to everything else and willing to spend a little money to accessorize the room and make everything work together.
Thanks for you ideas!

One of my favorite (reasonably priced) lounge chairs is the Ikea Poang chair. It comes with a matching ottoman. It works with just about any decor, comes in a number of fabrics and leathers and even a sheepskin option. I' bought mine over 5 years ago, am using it almost every day and it's holding up pretty well.
Can you move the desk to be in between the bedroom and the bathroom door and put the chair where the desk currently is? Not sure if that would fit and not sure if you have an outlet on that wall.
I would also replace the shelves with a mix of open and closed storage to make it look less office-like.
Is that the only door to the bathroom? If not, I'd suggest closing that door and pretending like it isn't there.
I second the Poang recommendation - I've been trying to decide on a lounge chair for my work office and it is the only one I've found that is comfy, not huge, and reasonably priced. I have one at home and like it (although the cats have mostly stolen it, of course).
Have you looked at the Luna Chair? It's dimensions are good for small spaces, such as yours and it is lovely to look at.
Overall: 28.5"w x 28.5"h x 31"d
Seat Width: 22"
Seat Height: 16.5"
It comes in a variety of finishes and in a low back and high back. It also has a matching ottoman. I think it would look smashing with sheepskin. It's going to be about three times as much as the Ikea piece, which is a nice alternative, too. Depends on your taste, budget and if you're looking for a statement piece.
You might place it under that window -- it's kind of hard to tell how the room is oriented from the picture, however the drawing helps. You could always pull the ottoman to the side and let it double as a side table when not in use.
Good luck!
@betsy bougie - Thanks for the suggestion. I love that chair and it comes in some colors that will work with the room I think.
@beverlyawest - I would love to close off the bathroom door, but my boyfriend has given that the axe.
@HHRI - I don't think the desk would fit between the 2 doors, but I about thought about putting it against the back wall to free up the corner by the bathroom for the chair.
