Q: On a whim, I bought this table at a thrift store because I loved the fact that it opens and pops up into a regular size table. The plan was to update it, but I could never decide what to do. I live in a small apartment and my daughter and I have used it for puzzles, craft projects, extra dinner seating, etc — and on most days, just as a coffee table.
I like the functionality but not the style. I've thought of painting it, whitewashing it, or painting only the legs, leaving the top stained... but it feels like it will always look like a mission style table that someone decided to paint, like a hand me down vs something I chose… does that make sense?
My décor style is evolving. (Please ignore the unpainted stool in one of the photos! It doesn't live in the living room). I'm drawn to organic modern and eclectic collector décor styles. I'm trying to move away from the shabby chic sofa and chair. No room in the budget for a new sofa, so I'm changing the slipcovers to a neutral micro suede and will add pops of color with pillows and a throw.
I would love any and all ideas on how to make this table work. Can it be saved?
