How Can We Compromise on Decorating (While Incorporating a Norwegian Flag)?

Good Questions

Q: My boyfriend and I have decided to move in together — which is great for so many things, just not decorating. He thinks his brown Craigslist couch with a piece of plywood under the cushion and his painting of a spaniel are perfect for a living room (I beg to differ). For the most part he seems fine with me making the decor decisions; however, the one thing he really wants is to hang his giant Norwegian flag. Any suggestions for displaying this in a creative and chic way? Right now it's hung on his apartment wall and reminds me of a college dorm:

Also, any suggestions on how to decorate our new place as a team? I don't want to take over — it's his place too! But I also don't want an impressive display of empty Captain Morgan bottles lining my kitchen cupboards. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give!
