How Do You Celebrate Special Occasions?

Pin it button big

When it comes to special occasions, are you in the "make it a time to remember" or "eh, it's just another day" camp?

I am a firm believer in the former. I got it from my mom, who always made occasions like my birthday special times — something I still get extremely excited about even to this day. Don't get me wrong, that doesn't mean she was the type to throw extravagant galas or anything, but she would fill the day with lovely and thoughtful surprises that took some time and effort to plan. Things like calling me every year at midnight to sing happy birthday, sending me money to buy a new outfit to wear on my birthday, going out to eat somewhere new. And I was without a doubt guaranteed that a bouquet of flowers would show up on my doorstep.

I have taken on this tradition with my family and have taught them how fun it can be to plan a day or weekend filled with special outings and surprises for the ones you love. There is nothing better than watching your loved one be continuously excited as their special day unfolds before them. And hey, with all the hard work the rest of the year, having a few days to really look forward to that stand out above the rest seems like a good way to make someone smile and create a lifetime of sweet memories.

How do you going about celebrating special occasions? What's the best thing you have done for someone else, or they have done for you? Share below.
