We typically refer to our home as what it is: a mid-century ranch. Though given the unexpected 2-year renovation, "Pandora's Box" would likely be more suitable.

The building exterior is faux Tudor, so that's how I describe it to people. My apartment is just 'my apartment/place' or, 'the place where I store my books'.

We live in the tower portion of an old mill building so we call our home The Tower. If we are feeling particularly cheesy will fake a french accent and call it La Tour. Not very original I'm afraid.

"My treehouse"

It's a 600 square foot one bedroom on the second floor, and outside all seven windows you see the branches and leaves of large deciduous trees. I love it.

Also, about the size of a treehouse.

Lately, I've been saying "Welcome to the dollhouse."

I call my home The Nest.

My husband and I got engaged while he was buying it - I literally went and signed a bunch of documents the day after we were engaged. And for our wedding we followed the tradition of folding 1000 origami cranes, so I was using a lot of bird imagery, and we were of course love-birds (or cat-birds, since were both crazy cat people). And so our home became our nest.

My home's an RV and I named her Miranda. People name ships, so why not RVs that are, really, like ships on wheels? Her name comes from a planet in the movie 'Serenity' and serves as a reminder of what happens when you let others dictate how you should behave.

Miranda is several steps up from the first home I owned, which was called The Shack, because I had no illusions about it being anything more. :)

"The Beige Box" - It's a nice apartment but I curse the person who decided to take our already gneric box-like apartment and paint the walls and ceiling of every room the same boring shade of beige.

We call our 1892 farmhouse the "Munster Pad." The exterior is reminiscent of the Munsters' house, although it's nowhere near as large. The knobby, dark branches on the ancient oak trees in front and back add to the effect.

My place is ~300 square feet. I have a cat. It's cozy.

I have been calling it the Black House, because it is. Maybe I should evolve the name into something more exotic, like Casa Nero or or La Maison Noir.

I either call it the "little house" or "my little dollhouse."
It's small, it's old, and it's very cute.

our tiny home has a name: "Acorn Cottage", and a description: "Modern Eclectic Whimsical Handicrafted: Pacific Rim meets Danish Modern, with a dash of McMenamins and Karl Larsson"...The "acorn" part came from imagery that had been significant to me for years, and the description is a kind of condensed design/style statement from the last AT Cure, as a way of making easier decisions about home decor.

"The money pit"--we've been renovating for the past 7 years.

I call my house "the doll house" because it's less than 1000 square feet! The original cottage section is over 150 years old and the two bedroom addition is still tiny!

The bedframe is from CB2 (I have it). I don't think that they carry it anymore. If you go to crateandbarrel.com and click on outlet, sometimes they carry discontinued CB2 styles.

I call it my Critter Cottage because I have two dogs, two cats, and parrot living with me in 378 sq. feet. It’s cozy and lovely. The cottage and the animals bring me joy.

The Turret -- my apartment building is one of those fake-castle places, and one of the corners of my bedroom is the inside of a turret (only the guy above me and the two units across the way also have them).

Our home's a work in progress. I rearrange frequently, have succombed to a life of decluttering and organization, and trust that one day I will be able to relax in at least one room in my home and have a mind at peace that it's finally "complete."

I live in a house with four other people and two dogs. We call it "The Hippie House."

I should have bought a one story. My younger child will no longer go up stairs (where his room and play room are) with out someone else. Even to get a pair of socks before school in the morning.

And, I can't keep up with the cleaning.

And the toilet overflowed yesterday and leaked from upstairs to down through the ceiling.

The downstairs toilet has been shut off--it leaks constantly.

I need to change the air filters, which means finding a tape measure and a ladder and taking a trip to Home Big Box.

Wah.

We live in Full Metal Jacket. The exterior walls visible from the street are orange and metal.

I said "messy" above, but in all seriousness, I sometimes refer to it as "Rancho Relaxo" in my head, because of the name of the street I live on. But I've never called it that out loud because I don't know if anyone would catch the Simpsons reference.

the never ending project! in reality we have only been in our home for 2 1/2 mths, but there are soooo many things we want to do that the list seems endless... i'll just have to be patient and work on it a little at a time.

I sometimes refer to my apartment as my house, even though of course it isn't. An old habit from when I actually did live in a house.

I *love* that rug with the cursive on it. I love that entire bedroom, actually. I'm sure the rug is a bajillion dollars, but has anyone seen it around?

Right now, we just call it "our home".

But since we only got the keys yesterday, I think we may be changing it to "The neverending work in progress". Are we in for a loooooooot of loooooong renovations... it's great to own your place, but you have no super to ask when you have a problem.

But before we bought it, I used to nickname it "the vertical appartment": it's 4.5 meters wide, and 3 stories high, plus a high-ceiling attic. That's how they imagine homes in the north of France... weird.

We just moved into our new house- this got me thinking! Lately we've just been saying 'house' because we're so excited.

I think I'm going to start calling it 'the homefront' since I listen to old time radio & have a lot of WW2 era decor.

Bing's always telling people to keep the home fires burning and whatnot... :)

Each room has a name. It was getting kind of difficult to choose wall colours so one day, during “colour decision-discussion” after my husband said “one thing we know: it’s a house of poetry” I just popped up with the names of our favourite poets associating them with specific rooms… suddenly each room with it’s poet name had a colour associated that made all the sense, and believe it or not the final result looks great!
Our bedroom has no poets name, it’s “THE nest”... sometimes I call it “the cave” or plain “hiding/secret place”

We moved in July after a year looking for the house of our dreams… reality has become even better than the dream
It’s a work in progress of course, and we wish it will be “forever in progress”

* in Portuguese house=casa & home=lar/casa, “lar” is quite formal, we say “A casa”

I haven't come up with a good name for my current apartment because its original name—ABIL 1—is actually pronounced "Ey-BEEroo Wan." Good enough for me.

My last apartment was The Cube. 1911 converted hotel room complete with the original murphy bed. Regular old sexypants time there.

My boyfriend and I call my flat the "Rat hole": it's the weirdest and cheapest house ever.
I bought it with all the money I could borrow and save (veery little)6 years ago and it sits on the last floor of an old milanese turn-of-the century building, where the attic used to be. It's small, dingy, there are several pigeons freeriding on the roof and I can't invite people over cause we'd have to seat them on our bed. I happily announce that we'll be undergoing renovations (finances have picked up for us) turning it into the most unusual bohemian flat very little money can buy. Stay tuned.

The Gnome House

I call my mother's house "the Country Home." My house, I call "the Jonah-House," a holdover from before I moved in and it was just my boyfriend's house (although, more accurately, it should be called "the Judy-house" since it's still full of his mother's stuff, who lives thousands of miles away and told him recently, because we've been boxing her stuff up and putting it in the garage, that she didn't want to feel like she was being moved out of her own house. Arg.). My sister's old house was "Sudden Valley," in honor of Arrested Development, and my mother's old RV was "the Gypsy Queen."

HOME. I fantasize about it all day, particularly during rough or boring days at the office. I can't wait to get home to my boyfriend and our three parrots, two house rabbits, and pit bull.

During the moving/reno process I nicknamed our place "Lebanon", since it remained beautiful while still being so wartorn. It's official name is Number 9. Not fancy, but alliterative and easy for friends to remember.

It's my safe haven. when I get home, I get an 'ahhhh.....' feeling. I change into my crummiest, most comfy clothes and relax, water the garden and indoor plants, and just unwind. It's where I can really be me.

As a single, gay female, who just graduated from a 4-year college, I refer to my recently redone studio as "The Bachelor Pad." No over-sized leather sofas or Godfather posters here though. ^.^

The rug is from Design Within Reach - it's the Manuscrit rug and will set you back $3400 (although it's gorgeous and I would splurge in a heartbeat).

CB2 had a cheaper version a few years ago, but it's no longer available for sale.

My building was called Avalon Apartments when it opened in 1925 (its current name isn't nearly as cool). The apartments, all studios around 225 sq ft, remind me of tiny hotel rooms I experienced in London. So I tell people I have a room at the Hotel Avalon. It's technically not true, but it sounds classy.

@clampers: i LOVE it. have you seen poortuliet and hyugen's "Gnomes"? it's a delight, and a great coffee table book.
