Interesting discussion recently amongst friends about the proliferation of coloured LED lighting in the home as a noticeable trend that has spilled from the hospitality field into home decor. What do you think about using LED mood lighting inside the home?

White Enamel Flatwa...
We think it's ghastly. Yes, WE.
It's cool. My boyfriend has it in his bedroom and it's very very relaxing.
This is probably a side effect of growing up in the country, but whenever I see things lit up like those chairs... I can't help but think of a couple of rednecks driving around a small, low-riding pickup truck and whistling at whatever women are around. So in other words, I don't like "ground effects" kinds of lighting at all!
The curtains are kind of okay. The TV background always kind of makes me wonder... wouldn't you want the background of your TV to always be dark and plain, so as not to distract? (Or does the lighting go off when the TV is on?)
This type of mood lighting never seems to elicit an "aaah" feeling for me. The effect feels forced and artificial, like a really bad plastic plant...that or I should be in a nightclub.
I don't see how anybody can find the colors used in LED lighting soothing. I find them garish. I would only seem right in either a nightclub or a teenage girls room.
Hideous and tacky.
It's like Fast and Furious Furniture. Not a fan.
I think the problem with the photo is that the technology makes the lighting placement scream out "Look at me!" I think it would be better used in a club or restaurant as a great way to create some visual interest, but in a home...not so much. That being said, judicious use of LED lighting might be an interesting way to accent behind a flat screen or in a bookcase as long as it is part of an entire lighting plan. And probably no colored lights.
tacky. garish. gaudy. ghetto. yuck....
however, I have seen a couple of applications of white LED lighting I thought looked okay. unfortunately, this was only online so I cannot say how it looks in person.
Mariyaodessa, you should post a picture of this relaxing bedroom you speak of. I am curious if colored LED can look as nice as you claim. :-)
If you keep the most natural white kind of led lights i guess is ok... the problem is when people get carried away and turn their homes into strip joints.....
ewwww
Its been used for years in swimming pools and although I'm not in any way, an advocate, I have to say it can be quite cool at a party, otherwise, kill the colour and stick to white light.

You can do that? Yes!
that rooms screams drunk.
I agree, it's a little tacky, a little too "bling." Then again, if it was done in a really cool, unexpected way, I can see it maybe being ok in a bachelor pad bathroom or something. Overall, I like LEDs. Far preferable to compact fluorescents, if they could just figure out a way to make them bright and cheap enough to light a room...
This look is garish and tacky when used in the home. No, no, no, no, no.
