We spend much of our time over here talking about ways to make our homes more inviting, cozy, warm, stylish, clean, comfortable, chic, energy efficient, et cetera, but we rarely discuss how to make our homes more fun. While many of you may have already seen this video, it still begs the question: How often do we choose function without thinking about fun?
The idea behind Volkswagen's Fun Theory is simple:
It's dedicated to the thought that something as simple as fun is the easiest way to change people’s behaviour for the better. Be it for yourself, for the environment, or for something entirely different, the only thing that matters is that it’s change for the better.
I love Volkswagen's initiative in making our public environment more fun. Perhaps it's time we took that initiative into our own homes because really, when was the last time you had fun just because?
How important is fun in your space? Have you incorporated fun into your home? If so, how?

I've been thinking about this ever since I flipped through one of Jonathan Adler's books at Powell's. Since then, I've made an effort to find things that are completely outrageous, often in a funny way, and that are likely to start a conversation.
full of awesome!
I would always take the stairs if they were piano keys! That's great, healthy, and a good reminder to challenge ourselves to enjoy simple pleasures and not get stuck in the tedium of everyday.
Thanks, this is a great reminder of that Swissmiss post from October 8th. So glad you folks keep the ball rolling.

I love this. Here's the man who started it all. David Rokeby.

His work is now used in rehabilitation clinics.
i've been trying to keep an eye out for ways to incorporate fun ever since that house tour that used a plush doll in place of a door knob (so the guy was half on one side of the door and half on the other). i love the idea but it's really hard for me to figure out how to actually do it.
A friend and I were discussing this last night and decided that chalk board paint seems like an easy way to start. Why not play tic-tac-toe, write store lists or leave love notes on your walls?
Fun is all about little touches that amuse you, your family and others.
I bought the vinyl version of this guy http://www.babble.com/CS/blogs/droolicious/2009/03/mustache_labbit_plush.jpg years ago and hide him such that you only occasionally see him watching you from the dark. :)
We put a vintage Schoenhut toy piano in the bathroom.
