Pantone is forecasting Dazzling Blue as fashion's premier color of Spring 2014. Since fashion and home decor are known to have a symbiotic relationship, I'm expecting to see a lot of deep, warm blue popping up in the aisles of my favorite stores and showrooms. So what does this all have to do with Facebook?
Prominent colors in fashion and decor are largely influenced by life, and nothing is more prevalent in everyday life this decade than technology. Pantone's Spring 2014 Fashion Color Report sparked some color fanatics to make a connection between the forecasted Dazzling Blue and the color of Facebook's logo. Facebook even sells a nail polish of its signature shade, dubbed by the social site as "Social Butterfly Blue," in its campus store according to Mashable.
Blue has always been a big hue for technology. This infographic from COLOURlovers shows many of the most successful social online brands sport blue hues, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and is-it-still-a-thing-or-not, MySpace.
So if life inspires fashion, and fashion informs decor, expect to see lots of blue in the years to come—on walls, floors and everything in-between (see: the last two West Elm catalogs).
Facebook inspired Dazzling Blue, could Twitter spurn a trend of Malibu Blue in 2015? Who knows! But if a color on a website or app strikes a chord every time you unlock your phone, take inspiration from Pantone's color report and use it to paint a wall or inspire the next throw pillow purchase.
