It's Mother's Day here in the States, and as we celebrate all the great things moms do for us all day and all year by showing our appreciation, it also got us thinking about how the style of our moms (and dads!) influence our styles as we grow up and grow into our own homes.
I would not describe my mom and I as having a similar style. She loves the country look, and there is a large amount of chicken and rooster decor. But where I can get on the same boat with my mom's style is quilts. We've always had tons of quilts around the house, from family heirlooms, to handmade ones to even ones bought from the store. To this day, I prefer a bed with cozy layers of multiple quilts over a thick duvet or comforter.
Though my home today is more eclectic and modern than my mom's, her love —and subsequently my love — of quilts carried over, and I top my beds with a small collection of quilts I've been growing since living on my own. They help add an air of authenticity and charm to my more modern look.
Has your mom's style had an influence on your own? Is your home decor style very different than your mom's, are in some ways similar? Do you have a different style, but still love and admire how the houses you grew up in looked and felt? And because we know loving families come in all shapes and sizes, feel free to share your thoughts about the style of whoever influenced your style.
And Happy Mother's Day to stylish moms everywhere!
