Ever since I've been married, there's been this unspoken war in the bedroom and it has to do with pillows. Petty, yes, but valid none the less. My husband sleeps with two pillows and half way through the night sheds one which inevitably smothers me in my sleep. How many pillows grace your bed each night?
Although a big pile of pillows looks cozy, it often seems silly to me to take them all off right before bed. Why have them in the first place? Do you like a big plush palace to sleep or the extra support they provide? Tell us below how many you sleep with at night!

Commercial Flour Sa...
I have four on my bed at night, and I start with one flat pillow, and a puffy one, and throughout the night, I grab the second puffy pillow and hug it.
My parents sleep with 8 pillows, two for my mom, and 6 for my step-dad. crazy
when i first got married, i had 5 pillows..nice and pretty but now, i have 2..one for me and one for my husband. I don't even know where the rest are. lol
Three -two for my head and one next to me in the middle of the bed acts as a restraining order so my dog does not sleep smack next to me because I run warm and he does not move.
During the day there are 6 pillows on our bed, and 3 or 4 at night. I usually sleep with one over my head because my husband snores, and he usually throws the 4th one on the floor.
My boyfriend always makes fun of me for the mound of pillows on my bed. I have 6, one body pillow in between the bed and the wall, two for my head, one for my legs, one to keep my dog out of my area and a neck pillow for my dog to attack. His bed has two and it takes me for ever to find the thickest part of my pillow there and fall asleep.
we have 5 pillows on our bed, i use 3 for sleeping my partner uses 1. the other 2 are usually used for propping yourself up for reading, laptop, movie etc....
My husband and I have two each. One to lay our heads on and one to protect me from hitting my head on the headboard. I'm really clumsy and this was a nightly occurrence until my husband suggested the other pillow. He has one as well to make the bed balanced. He's weird like that.
The hubs and I have 2 main pillows each - a sham and a regular pillow. There are 3 small decorative pillows that rarely make it on the bed anymore. When I became pregnant with our first child a few months ago, I added a body pillow to my side of the bed.
4
2 in an a ^ shape for my head and 2 for me to lay my arm on. I have shoulder issues and if I don't support it I wake up in pain BUT I always face away from my husband so he doesn't get pillowfaced :)
I sleep with two. There are normally 4 on my bed and i take them off before getting into bed.
For two of us, we sleep with four pillows plus two dachshunds, so I suppose that's actually six pillows, of which one snores.
Four:
Two Euro pillows and Two Standard pillows...
...all for me!
I sleep with 4, all for me on my queen bed. Two firm pillows and 2 really soft ones.
5 for us.
1 for the husband.
4 for me...one body pillow to hug, three pillows for my head arranged in a hill formation. I can't lie down fully anymore since vertigo...eek!
Just two--one for me, one for my honey. Mine has to be thin, or I wake up with lower back pain; when we stay in hotels, I often use a folded blanket as a pillow if all the pillows provided are thick.
Um... zero? I sleep on my stomach, so pillow just put a crick in my neck. The beau is all about the body pillow, and sometimes an additional one for his head. I guess we're weird.
3 thin down pillows each on our king size bed
- 1 king size each
- 2 standard/queen size each
Because the pillows are so downy and squishy there's never a pile of pillows that we're fighting with.
However, at hotels when we've had to use fiber-fill pillows there have been piles and lots of rearranging.
How many pillow?
Two, of course.
One for each head!
I sleep alone and I have seven. Go figure.
I guess I'm weird. One for me. One for my other half. We also have no decorative pillows.
6 for us... two are decorative so they get ditched at night. Husband has 1, I have 2 under my head, and 1 under my knees. My husband must think I am high maintenance.
we have six. i think. maybe more. they shift & rotate around as both me & my husband roll around in our sleep.
Forgot to mention that this post totally reminds me of modern family when Gloria has a million pillows on the bed!
3, one for under my head, 1 for in-between the knees, and one for the top of my head (I live in the city and it helps block the noise, at least to be able to get to sleep).
Oh, but forgot to mention there is another one on the bed for aesthetics. I like things to be even.
My big burly guy's the one with decorative pillows. I hate throwing pillows on the floor each night. So we only use two, but we have seven. When it was just me, I had four - two at the top of the bed for my head, one for my leg and one for my arm. A body pillow would have worked for that, too.
We have 4 - one foam one each (the Ikea side sleeper ones) and one thin squishy one. He always sleeps with 2, if I sleep on my side I use two, but sometimes I sleep on my stomach in which case I throw the thinner on floor. Or on husbandface!
I have 4 for just me. I start out with two and switch off through the night when they get too hot. We like what we like, nothing wrong with that.
We sleep with four down pillows. But when the bed when made often has anything from 4 to 10. I love pillows.
5 PILLOWS...2 FIRM ON TOP 2 DOWN ON BOTTOM AND 1 THATS A VERY LARGE BOLSTER-JUST DECORATIVE THOUGH...8-)
1.
I sleep with 3 pillows one of them a body pillow. My husband sleeps with 2 pillows.
Four king size pillows just for me. Two for my head, one for between my knees if I sleep on my side (have to keep my hips level or I wake in pain!) and one to hug or for behind my back if side-sleeping - if I sleep on my back sometimes I need one under each arm (shoulder/arm pain). Fibromyalgia, lower back, and SIJ injuries make me pretty touchy and it pays to support what needs supporting!
None! I've never been able to sleep with a pillow.
One each, and two with "decorative" covers to match the doona during the day, and to help make a decent back support when sitting up reading. At night these two are taken off the bed when getting it ready - one goes behind the bedroom door to muffle the noise it makes when the cat slams it open...
6 I usually start with 3 and end up with 4 by the next morning. My husband starts with 3 and sheds one during the night.
A zillion, and what's this nonsense about taking them off when you sleep? I enjoy my large, cuddly pile, thank you!
six:
-husband: one regular, one memory foam
-son (age 2.5): one regular
-me: 1 regular, one neck roll for my head, one neck roll to stuff in between the bed and the wall to close the small gap so son does not end up falling off the bed.
Thank goodness for king-sized family beds!
3 pillows is perfect for me.
11:
5 decorative
6 sleeping pillows
3 end up on the floor
3 end up under our heads
The dog sleeps on the floor pillows
We have six pillows on the bed during the day--all regular bed pillows. Those are all used at night in addition to three more. Yes, the total is nine. The hubster uses three (two under his head, one on the side) I use six (two to four under the head, two in the middle for the cat princess, two if not under head on the other side). I have bronchial problems and need the pillows to keep me upright to breathe many nights.
It really doesn't look as excessive as it sounds.
One. I used to sleep with no pillows as a kid, because I liked it. Now I sleep with one flat one, and even then I only sleep right on the corner of it.
3 - 1 buckwheat hull pillow for me, 2 for him!
2 king size fluffy ones, 2 standard size kinda hard ones and a body pillow... all for me. I rearrange them all night long too.
I sleep on with 4 and hubby sleeps with 3 although his move throughout the night. I sleep with 4 due to my sleep apnea tho.
I have a full bed and have 2 king, 2 regular, and a body pillow. I sleep with all of them
2: 1 for me and 1 for my cat who sleeps half on the pillow and half on my head.
This proves the more important point: it is truly unnatural to share one's bad with dogs or humans.
I embroidered my own pillowcases with a cute retro pattern to avoid this sort of problem. Now the two pillows I actually sleep with are also a little decorative, and I can dispense with the shams.
These replies are all so interesting. :) I sleep with four generally: one flattish pillow for under my head, one travel sized TempurPedic neck pillow for structured neck cradling, one big firm one for my legs (for back sleeping it goes under knees, for side sleeping - between thighs), and another firm one that does double duty (it's used for extra upper-back support when I'm on my back or to clutch to my chest when I'm on my side.)
I have fibromyalgia with common sleep disturbances and tender pressure points, so it's terribly hard for me to sleep without the support of these things.
My girlfriend thinks I'm nutty though because she sleeps with one: a fluffy king size down pillow.
I have two... one usually dispensed with half way through the night... Hubby has three... a normal pillow, a foam one and a small one that fits under his neck... and then I (I not we as he doesn't understand decoration) have four that are decoration that get chucked on the floor when we get into bed - so that's nine...
Two at a minimum -- a memory foam for my head and a body pillow. If for some reason I have to sleep on my back there are small pillows for behind my knees and to cushion my heels. My husband manages with just a memory foam and a body pillow. Oh, and there are three decorative ones that come off at night.
No decorative pillows and 2 standard bed pillows. I only use one, the other is to balance the look of the queen size bed.
4:
2 standard for my head
2 king side to fill in the space in the bed
Unless someone else is staying over, then 3 to give them a little more room.
Four. Two stacks of two each. God help the dog if he tries to lay on any of them.
I have three, one for me, one for my dog and then a body pillow that lays accross the headboard because I have a metal bed and those bars can hurt. And yes, I said one for my dog (who's smaller than the pillow). :)
I am loving this post and the responses...
I sleep with 6 on the bed and in the day there are an additional 5. excessive, perhaps. wonderfully soft and cozy, definitely!
3 just for me in my lonely college-housing twin.
I'm a stomach and side sleeper so I have two separate pillows for that (in an inverted V shape), plus one more.
Two Euro Squares and four feather pillows, two down pillows and one neck roll.
I have a total of 11 pillows on the bed when it is made. For sleeping I have 2 a piece of the my husband and myself. I actually sleep on one and toss the other one around the bed at night.....LOL
4.5. Two not so fluffy ones each my boy and I and then one fluffy throw pillow I hug. RE: the smothering, he smothers himself with the top pillow. So weird.
2 queen sized pillows each for me and hubby and 1 euro pillow each for us, but we don't sleep on them. both of us find the size odd and place them on the floor. we use them when we're sitting up in the bed instead to watch tv during rainy days! or when one of us is home sick.
I am surprised to see so many people use four pillows. I only use one and I always thought my boyfriend was crazy for using four, but I guess he isn't!
I have 6-7 for myself..am surrounded by them...but i wake up with 2-3 only.
I have six.. but only sleep on one, or none.
Sometimes I wake to find that im using the corner of the duvet, all scrunched up, as my pillow. I would love to achieve the "glamorous hotel style bed" look, so i'm actually thinking about buying a few more decorative pillows..
Come to think of it, I might have a pillow fetish.. i've just counted 9 on my (not very large) sofa...
Durring the day 5, at night 3. I sleep with two and he sleeps with one. I throw the other 2 on the floor otherwise I'd be too tempted to smother him and his ruining my life with snoring.
Let's see, I sleep with two under my head, of which one is a tempurpedic one for when my neck is bothering me and the other is a standard pillow. I also sleep with a lumpy pillow and use it under or between my legs for when I sleep on my back or side. Boyfriend only had one flat one he likes to fold up. I'm also considering getting a body pillow to hug since I can't sleep on my right side at the moment due to possible gallbladder issues getting irritated.
I normally sleep with one but add an additional one occasionally (:
