Sales prices for homes vary widely across the U.S. HSH.com, an online mortgage lender, looked at the 25 largest metro areas in the country to determine salary requirements to buy the average home. In Cleveland, people need a base salary of $19,435 a year to afford the average home, while San Franciscans have to make $115,000 annually.
