Sleek, tall desks look chic, non? But that slim aesthetic comes with a price: Storage. If you took our advice and opted for an IKEA Melltorp as your main workspace, you might be interested to see how one DIY'er created a portable drawer for the svelte white table.
Wein Krisztina, an IKEA Hacker from Budapest, yanked a wooden drawer from an old IKEA Moppe chest of drawers and turned it into a portable storage drawer to hold gadgets at her dining table. You can re-purpose this project to create an accessory drawer to your own storage-less desk.

All you need to do is make 45° cuts into two pieces of wood, then attach them together at a 90°angle. Screw this piece vertically onto the side of the drawer, and let it hang down from your desk top.
If you're interested in a uniform look, use an unfinished drawer and wood slats, then stain everything to match. If you're interested in getting started, check out more photos and detailed instructions at IKEA Hackers.

Shaw's Original Fir...
Very cool.
I am myself an Ikea Hacker, and I absolutely like this idea, it is ingenuous and useful, it really rocks.

It's kinda like those handbag hangers some ladies use in restaurants, but way way more practical. I think I'm going to try this with my West Elm Parson's desk. It has two drawers, but it ain't enough!
Not for me, thanks. Smack into it a couple of times and send the contents flying. I'll pass.
Hmm, that's not really a drawer though, is it. Like Yonella, I think it looks kind of precarious - and it encroaches on the table top unlike an actual drawer.
I love inventive ideas like these. I think I would hide baby hand and face wipes in this drawer to clean up my daughter after eating dinner.
