Birthday Loot Bags

You know how birthdays always seem to travel in packs? We're about to head into a major birthday season, so our head is aswim with party ideas. One of our favorite party projects is planning the loot bags, so Lisa's recent post on her blog Picnic caught our eye. She shows three great ideas, ranging from easy to slightly more challenging. We love the simplicity of the button-adorned paper bags pictured above. See below the jump for Lisa's other suggestions.

These handmade drawstring bags are absolutely adorable and 100% reusable. You can customize the fabric to make anything from dainty purses to pirate bags o' booty.

If you're strapped for time -- or just not that into sewing -- Lisa recommends these awesome little galvanized steel buckets. They're inexpensive (which we like) and they can be repurposed in a thousand ways by the recipient (which we really like).

For my one year olds b-day last year the "bag" was a butterfly net. The kids looooved them, and it got them outside to play too!
One friend does sand pails every year as her kids b-days are all within 2 weeks at the end of April-beginning to May, all 4 of them!

There are frequently brightly painted metal buckets in the dollar bin at Target. We love them for goody bag replacements that are useful after the fact. They are the perfect place for crayons or any collection of small items that a kid decides needs to move from here to there.

I did a western theme for our sons first. We used brown paper bags for the goody bags. I wrote "Cowboy" or "Cowgirl" on the bags in different color ink.
