Q: I am struggling with what I can do to hide or, at least minimize, the visual impact an ENORMOUS house being built at the back of my property and would love to hear some ideas from the Apartment Therapy community...
Recently, two house smaller homes at the back of our property were removed to make way for one 15,000 sq. ft. (no, that is not a typo) private residence on a combined .37 acre lot. The build is placing an almost 20ft. high garage wall where an open backyard and trees once stood.
Not wanting to stare at the side of a warehouse from our back deck, we are considering planting trees to help manage the view. The concern with the tree solution, however, is the presence of overhead utility lines... Does anyone have any suggestions about types of trees we might plant? And/or are there other solutions that you have encountered or used that we should consider? Thanks! -Sent by Michael
Editor: Wow, that new house will be 37 1/2 My Last Apartments! I appreciate that you don't throw the term "ENORMOUS" around lightly, sir. Readers, what can Michael do to still enjoy his yard and deck without feeling like they've become New House Viewing Areas?
