The developers at UK design agency, Fast Fwd Multimedia, are already adept at building websites and apps, but they seem to be equally skilled in the arts of IKEA hacking, building themselves a back-to-back desk setup for two using a mashup of IKEA parts and products...
Our desks are an IKEA hack. They comprise of a solid Oak kitchen worktop, the VIKA ANNEFORS under-desk storage and two VIKA ADILS table legs. For the worktop I chose NUMERÄR from IKEA, sized at 126cm x 62cm. Although any similarly sized worktop, from any timber merchant will do. I built a much larger fitted desk for a relative using a long kitchen worktop made from premium oak. The IKEA ones are good though, because they come pre-treated.
Switching out the usual selection of fiberboard IKEA desk toppers for an all-wood solid oak kitchen counter top is a great idea for durability and appearance (simulated wood is never as good as the real thing). You will need a capable power drill with proper wood bit attachment, but otherwise this DIY seems feasible for anyone with a little room and time.
