Over the weekend a friend of ours built a bed for her son. We love the fact that she chose to do it herself vs. buying it from a store. It makes it so much more special. It also allowed her to choose her own fabrics that match his room. More photos after the jump...

She followed simple instructions from Gabrielle Blair of Design Mom. This is a perfect DIY project if you are looking to get a bed for your little one with a budget in mind. Our friend chose brown fabric for the base and jungle themed bedding that matches her son's room decor. This project also allows for custom mattress sizes. Be sure you measure yours before starting this project.
The bed turned out great. We wish we were there when her son saw the new bed for the first time. Great job Alex!

Sheex Bedding
It's very cute. Good idea.
My husband and I are making the same instructions with slight modifications for a twin bed. We're painting it, not using upholstery so it will last through longer decor.
Interesting and cute... it feels a bit out of place in that room to me, though. The bed feels quite "young boy", but with the jumbo electronics I'm thinking this space is probably not home to a 2-3 year old.
maybe the bed is in the living room just to show where she assembled it?
Great bed, but I love the bedding! Does anyone know where you can buy it?
Thanks for the comments! Alysaaria - you're right, we assembled the bed in the living room since we room to spread out.
The bedding is from Pixel Organics - bought on Amazon.com but here's a link to their website:
