Included in Lifehacker's Top Ten IKEA mods, we wanted to share this ingenious storage solution for multiple bikes in a small space.

Taken from IkeaHacker, Michael constructed this bike rack using just a few simple pieces of hardware from Ikea: a Stolmen post, a couple of brackets, and four hooks.

Building the rack works as follows:
1. Cut two pieces of the square pipe; choose the length depending on the design of your bike frame.
2. Drill 3 holes into the pieces of square pipes.
3. Screw a hook on each end of the pipe; screw the pipe to the bracket.
4. Now you can mount the stolmen post and adjust the two brackets on it.
5. Finally glue some of the rubber foam to the hooks to not scratch the bike frame.

Total cost? Just over $40; and according to Michael, "this should just take you like ½ an hour."

It looks nice though. Maybe I'm just jealous since any hack that involves Ikea I can't do b/c there's no Ikea near!
I love bike rides! Excellent idea! I'm on the wall of the hall is such a picture http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=37055431
um, what about girl bikes with no straight top bar?
What about apartments with that popcorn ceiling?
I used to use one similar to the one linked to at Amazon. It only holds 2 bikes however- but you can use it with a popcorn ceiling. Now I just screwed hooks into the ceiling studs and hang the bikes by one wheel. Cost $2 a hook. I can hang 4 bikes at an angle in the same space as that holding 2 bikes. When I get ready to sell my place, a little dab of spackle fills them in!
@aoide: there's really no good way to store a bike without a top bar in vertical storage. I wound up purchasing a doo-dad from Saris that is, essentially, a removable top bar so I can put my bike on my car rack.
Wow, the spokes on the mountain bike are pretty crazy. Is that common for mountain bike tires?
