Q: I need tips on how to clean my area rug from within my NYC apartment. While I vacuum regularly, and blot clean any spills, my entire rug has become quite dingy over the past year; it's especially noticeable on the lighter parts. Living in a small NYC apartment, it gets quite a bit of traffic. I've been researching how to clean the entire thing, but tips often include taking the rug outside--and while I have some outdoor space, it would be quite the hassle to get the rug to the area. And if I shook it out on my patio, the dust would go into all of my lower neighbors' windows--and I don't want to be that neighbor.
Any tips on how to clean the entire rug from within the living room? I'm trying to avoid taking it somewhere. It's an inexpensive low-pile wool/nylon blend from IKEA so I don't want to invest a lot of money. That said, I'm in the market for a new rug, and want to make sure I can clean a wool rug effectively in my space if I'm going to invest that kind of money.
