No more untangling your necklaces or desperately trying to find that 'other' earring at the last minute with this fast fix up! If you have random stove or grill accessories that are small and holey, this is the DIY that is too quick and easy to pass up.
What You Need
Grill tray, fish fry tray, or holey metal accessory
Biodegradable soap, water, and brillo-like pad
Low VOC spray paint
Hanging wire or ribbon
Small S Hooks with open ends
1 Thoroughly clean the grill tray with biodegradable soap, water, and a brillo-like pad.
2 Sand the grill tray to help remove any rust, additional grime, and to create a more adhesive surface.
3 Wipe the grill tray down with a damp cloth and then lay out in the sun to dry or use a cloth.
4 Set-up an outdoor spray paint station with newspaper and spray both sides of the grill tray, leaving ample time for it to dry.
5 Take hanging wire or any wire with a think gauge or strong ribbon. Wrap the wire or ribbon around the top two corner holes of the grill tray. Make sure there is enough slack to hang the tray (now transformed into a jewelry stand) on the wall.
6 Add the small S-hooks to areas that you would like to hang necklaces or bracelets.
7 Viola! Now just hang your jewelry stand and enjoy the re-purposed organization it can provide!
Additional Notes: When selecting a grill tray, consider the weight and thickness of the tray and the holes. If it is too heavy, it will be difficult to hang. If it is too thick, it will be difficult to put certain earring hoops or S Hooks through the holes. Also, the low-VOC spray paint can be substituted with no-VOC paint for metal, but it may require a little extra time.
I have also seen this done with the tops of wire tables on Curbly that look gorgeous as well as holey-desk organizers from IKEA. So if you don't have a grill tray that is begging to be used, try out one of those options! Personally, I like the fish fry racks and grill trays because they typically have a small shelf that is perfect for setting rings, watches, and other hard to hang things.
