I've been thinking about replacing my bedroom door, which tragically swings inward, constantly cutting off access to one side of my bed. A quick Google of sliding doors led me to a how-to for a bright and charming, sliding barn door.
Though it seems like her engineer husband did most of the handy work, Dana's how-to from House Tweaking for a new sliding barn door in her bedroom looks like it was an easy install. I especially love the product they found - a flat track, by Crown Industrial. The weight of the product seems to suggest an expensive shipping cost, but you can't argue with the look of the finished product (not to mention the luxury of having the track cut precisely to your needs). Though I don't think I'll be constructing my own door out of salvaged pieces from my family's country farm fence, I like the idea of using a reclaimed door, or maybe even upholstering my existing door, to hang on a sliding track.
To gather some useful tips on hanging a sliding door, head over to House Tweaking for Dana's two part post (complete with her husband's detailed illustrations) on how she created this chic and useful feature in her bedroom.
