Q: We just bought a two-floor apartment in a cute townhouse in Bergen, Norway. We're trying to figure out storage for clothing. The room is about 11' x 12' and almost every corner of the room has something taking up space in it. There is no clothes closet in the room, but there is a weird little storage closet in the corner. We would like to have our bed under the dormer window. We don't need to have space for hanging clothes in the room, rest of our clothes.

Here are our ideas so far:
1. Get a bed with under-bed drawers on both sides & mount some floating cabinets.
2. Get a number of quirky looking dressers of different heights and paint them different cheerful colors and line them up.
3. Get a custom built-in closet.
4. Remove the weird storage space and build in a low unit all across the window wall.
I would love feedback on any/all of these ideas AND I would also be excited to have totally different ideas. How can we make this work?

White Enamel Four-P...
The IKEA Mandal bed is a good solution for underbed storage. The drawer fronts could be painted bright colors, if you wish.
I like the idea of mismatched dressers in various heights, painted bright colors to contrast with the bedspread...otherwise too much purple!
If you had to, blocking off the weird little storage space wouldn't be such a big loss.
I think you're onto something.
I agree with the idea of getting rid of the weird little built in cabinet and putting ink knee-wall drawers across that whole side of the room. I've seen something like this on Ikeahackers, and I also know that the Mill Stores sell knee-wall drawers ready to be built into a wall. (Or have a wall built around them.)
I had a studio in an attic room once, for improvised storage space I mounted bamboo roll up shades on eye hooks partially up the slanted ceiling. Behind them I stored my art supplies in plastic bins.
It appears from the photo that you could lose the nightstand on the left, thus centering the bed under the window, and have storage along the wall on the right- low or varying heights to make better use of that wall. cool room!
Oh, please don't get rid of the quirky little cubby -- it's cute!
What's on the wall opposite the bed?
You could install streamlined IKEA kitchen cabinets along the wall with drawers, shelves, and pullout baskets to make more storage without feeling like the giant wardrobe is closing in on you! It would allow for decorative art to be above the storage, as well.
Adorable! I <3 cute attic spaces!
I agree with the previous comment about moving the bed over to the left and using the wall to the right of the bed for storage.
Storage can be dressers, but maybe consider something similar to the ikea stolmen to accommodate more than just folded clothing.
Also, if you want more storage for blankets or things you don't need access to every day, I would pull the bed away from the wall a bit, maybe half a meter, and hack some sort of storage unit with a low tabletop that can act as an extended windowsill/night stand. Maybe mount the top on hinges so that it can flip up.
Depending on how you feel about open storage, you could consider a solution like the Ikea Stolmen. I believe there are more expensive designer solutions similar to this, and cheaper (possibly prettier) DIY solutions as well.
This should solve the awkward space issue, but I'm not sure if it fits your style.
I love the idea of getting a few dressers of different heights and painting them.
Hi all!
Since I posted this question, we have moved in to our house!
First let me clarify: the furniture is NOT ours (including the large black wardrobe). They belonged to the previous owners.
Re: what's on the wall opposite the bed and window: nothing except the bedroom door, all the way to the left of it. It is the one open, full-height wall in the room.
However, on the right corner of that wall (and next to the big black wardrobe in the picture on the adjacent wall) there is a cement protrusion - the chimney.
I'm not very fold of the idea of open storage, like the Stolmen... but maybe it could work if we don't find something else and I can re-imagine it into beauty ;)
For now we have set up the room as follows:
-a simple set of shelves on the wall that in the photos above held the wardrobe. We keep our pants and tops neatly folded on it. They are similar to these:

-a mid-century dresser on the opposite wall similar to the "before" picture here:

-a mattress on the floor under the window (no night tables) while we wait to find our dream bed.
That's it! So your suggestions are still useful and totally appreciated.

I would get low storage all along one of the walls. Cube storage may allow you to customize.
Maybe like:

Or something like it. Then above it use hooks for jewelry, hoodies, hats, etc. Throw two cute lamps on the storage unit to make it look cool and maybe some books w/ bookends in the middle of it all. On the opposite wall I would be daring and just have a clothes rack. Or you could get a low dresser.
I'd place the window at the end of the room and use all the under-eaves space for custom builtin closets and dressers - You'll never regret it.
I should also mention that I like your ideas, in general!
Briefly, I'll note that the DIY pipe shelving examples are much prettier, and you can combine with the venetian (or rolling bamboo) blinds to keep the clothes hidden if you'd like.
Regarding under-bed storage, I would (1) highly recommend it but (2) suggest that you don't necessarily need a bed with drawers. You can usually come by some under bed storage containers that should roll under most beds, and tend to move around easier than fixed drawers. If you have fixed drawers, you'll either be restricted to putting your bed centrally or not having use of some of your drawers. Underbed storage is great for off-season items and can be used in conjunction with your other ideas.
For the low-unit idea, another alternative (as suggested by others) is to have the low-unit span across a different wall, besides the window wall. If you can make it bench-height, at least in some areas, this would be great to serve a dual purpose in providing some additional seating in your room as well as storage. A similar-ish idea may be to include a trunk by the foot of your bed.
I would extend the little cubby hole to the full depth of the recess and to the extent of that wall, then put in cupboards, shelves, closed and open units, and possibly a study bit according to your needs.
Find a photo of built-in under-stair drawers and see if you would like them along one of the sloping walls. Also, instead of a bed withdrawers, consider one where the entire mattress lifts up, providing a great deal of storage for things you don't need every day.
