Q: Okay, I admit it. When I can't think of anything else to do, I buy a new scarf. I probably have about 50 or more and I'd like to have a way to display them where they'd be seen, accessible and decorative. I'm thinking around a mirror on my bedroom wall, but how?

Or you can put an tension rod in a window, loosely tie the scarves around it, and use them as a window treatment. Depending on the size of the window, they could go in the middle or at the top.
I have my scarves hanging on a series of mismatched hooks on one long wall in my bedroom. If you choose to display your scarves I would suggest keeping the rest of the room pretty subdued so that it's not overwhelmingly busy.
This hanger from Ikea could possibly do the trick.

The window would be pretty, but I'd be worried about fading. Get one or two of those ikea kits with the wire that is intended for curtains and just use that. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60075295/
I agree with Deirdre625 - don't keep them in direct sunlight, they will fade. If they are silk, store them in tissue, boxed, in your closet.
I like idea of a towel rod on the wall for a nice display that makes it easy and fun to choose a different scarf for your mood.
I also like this tension rod solution from a previous AT post:

Here are a couple of other posts I came across hat might be helpful as well:

I second the Ikea hanger. I have one hanging on the wall in my bedroom. I pull the scarves through so the excess hangs down the back. That way you get so see everything you have all at once and it's easy to pull out the one you want to wear.
I have the following scarf organizer from The Container Store & love it:
http://www.containerstore.com/shop?productId=10011717&N=&Ntt=scarf
It only holds 10 scarfs so you may want to buy more than one, but at least you can see what you have. Personally I keep mine hanging in the closet, but I think it would look just as nice out in the open!
I have my few in one of those monogramed LLBean travel bags I have over by the door. Keeps them clean and neat and tiddy. Fifty is a bit much to display they will faded and get dusty.
I live in a condo where for some reason, we get these teeny spiders. I've tried everything to get rid of them. So anytime I pull something from my closet I shake the heck out of it just to make sure I don't have a little hitch-hiker. If that's not your issue, just think of the dust they may collect since you have so many you would like to display. If THAT'S not an issue either, then go for the towel or tension rod ideas and hang them by color. You'll have a rainbow to see everything day. Good Luck.
I love scarves too and I use them as dresser scarves, draped over a floating shelf or top of bookshelves...any special horizontal surface that I use for display. I rotate them so that I can refresh my eyes and actually SEE them. It also gives me a chance to change the display they're under. Each scarf inspires a different kind of vignette.
Oh, and dont' always have them flat. somtimes scrunching them around one big gorgeous piece (like awesome pottery) is fun too.
you could superglue a bunch of clothes pins in a grid onto a big piece of wood and hang it on the wall! or attach dowels or knobs in a grid to the wood to drape over, rather than clip the scarves up. easy to remove and put back each scarf, and it doubles as art!
I bought the CB2 slat rack (http://www.cb2.com/slat-rack/f5501?fromLocation=search) and have been very happy with it. Holds many scarves and becomes a colorful display piece too.
This question inspired me to create a blog post of my own because I LOVE my scarf organization and display system. Here's a link with photo: http://www.kamigray.com/?p=9794 An Apartment Therapy post from awhile back on door hooks shows a perfect over-the-door scarf organizer from Urban Outfitters, which is still available at UO for $19. Cute too! http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/hooks-at-urban-outfitters-65692
I too can not pass up a beautiful scarf when shopping, and I JUST conquered this problem at my own new apartment using a cheap, pretty towel rack+rod combo from Target (similar to this one from Walmart, but w/ only one rod below http://www.walmart.com/ip/Whitmor-Chrome-Towel-Rack-with-Shelf/16523691)
ANYWAYS: I use the rods which make the shelf on top to loop my scarves around and through, and use S-hooks (actually, shower curtain hooks) on the rod at the bottom to store belts and some of my heavier, longer necklaces. It displays really beautifully between my bathroom door and closet, wish I had a picture to show you b/c it turned out so well.
I have also seen/heard of using over-the-door shoe organizers with clear pockets to display any number of things: scarves, toiletries, jewelry, you name it.
I found that I had wayyyyyyy more vintage scarves than I'll ever use, so I picked out all of my favorites of the ones I wasn't wearing in our bedroom's peacock tones, and sewed them into a quilt-like curtain. I love this because it means I can enjoy them every day: Our master bedroom on Flickr
I think you should turn your scarves into a kind of art display by your front entrance - it's very Parisian to have a rack of scarves by the door, so that as you head our you can glance at yourself in the mirror and toss one on to complete your look. How about a mirror, with a long towel rack under neath or to the side, and then a shoe rack underneath, to make a kind of entrance? Maybe something like this:

Or with a hall tree like the one in the second photos here:

I picked up this vintage brass mailbox at a thrift store once that I never knew what to do with, until I faced a similar scarf-problem. The mailbox hangs on the wall and it has a newspaper holder attached to the bottom, which essentially makes 2 hooks. I hang all of my larger square scarves from the hooks and then fold and tuck any small scarves/handkerchiefs into the mail part of the box. Works like a champ, looks cute, and it helps me remember what scarves I actually own so I wear them!
I own a clothing store and have always found displaying scarves to be difficult... we found a beautiful wooden ladder, leaned it against the wall and knotted the scarves on each step. It is decorative, beautiful, and a great display.
I put one of the Ikea Grundtal rails over my dresser and just knot my scarves on there. (Here's the link: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20213538/) If you look in the wall storage section of the kitchen section there are several other styles and hooks as well.
