Q: I've always liked the idea of customizing my Xbox 360 a different color. But as much as I like the options and results offered by companies like Colorware, $199 is well beyond my budget as a student. Has anyone out there successfully done a DIY paint job with their console? And if so, are there any tips for making the paint stick and stay durable? I'm not looking for a "drippy" finish!

Editor: As someone who had to regularly spray paint plastic items during a previous stint in the toy industry, I'd can offer two bits of advice for any plastic paint project:
1) Sand down the surface using a fine grit sandpaper before painting, and while painting,
2) While painting, apply several coats from at a foor away and with very light coverage, allowing enough time for each application to dry before adding another layer.
Patience is the key when painting plastic; try to paint too quickly and the chances of a running drip and uneven finish increases.
Here's a useful resource for custom console painting from TheTechGame.com reader boards to refer to before painting your console, alongside a video below showing the process in action:
Leave any additional suggestions for Luke in the comments - thanks!
