Dishwashing debate aside, if you're lucky enough to have a dishwasher you probably want it to last as long as possible. We didn't know this (probably because we don't own a dishwasher), but there are things you can do to extend its life. And, conversely, things you might be doing that are shortening its life.

This week over at the Sierra Club's green lifestyle blog, they're talking about dishwasher "dos and don'ts".

Obviously, keeping an appliance healthy for as long as possible is always green. And, keeping an efficient dishwasher working properly is a super-green move because some experts argue that using an efficient dishwasher is the best way to wash dishes, and uses the least amount of water.

So how do you keep your dishwasher working well and for a long time? The Sierra Club's first tip is to make sure you're using hot water. That's right hot water. Find out why and get the rest of their tips at The Green Life.
