European Alternatives to my Favorite US Design Stores?

Good Questions

Q: My husband and I have just moved to Berlin from New York City. We plan to be here for many years, so I'd really like to furnish our apartment in a comfortable style, but I'm having a really hard time finding European alternatives to my favorite stores like West Elm, Rugs USA, and YLighting:

I've found that while a number of US-based stores do ship to Europe, most won't ship their entire range, and the shipping costs for things like rugs are outrageous. (Not to mention that the customs office here in Germany likes to impound shipments, and then requires you to come to their office and pay money to get them to release your packages!)

I notice that Apartment Therapy's shopping suggestions are very US-focused, but I know that many people from Europe read the blog as well. Where do you all shop for furniture and home accessories?

(The photo is of my sad apartment, which needs your help.)
