How to Get Purchases Home from Vacation

We've all been in that position — you're on vacation and find a lovely rug, tea table, vase, etc for a price you can't beat. You would love to bring it home with you- but how? Oversized, heavy and otherwise cumbersome pieces present a unique set of challenges but can be well worth the hassle. Here are a few tips.

1. Leave room in your suitcase/pack an empty bag. I usually travel light, bringing only an expandable carry-on suitcase with me. Inside of this, I pack a lightweight duffel bag that can be used to check purchases when flying home. If you don't go too crazy with the shopping, this can be a great solution.

2. Try to save your shopping for the end of the trip. If you're planning on flying your purchases back with you, buying them near the end of the trip can save you the trouble of toting them from place to place.

3. Ask the vendor if they ship. Some places are very experienced with the process of shipping purchases safely and affordably overseas for you. While this might not be an option at a bazaar, it's a great one at a reputable shop.

4. Consider shipping it to yourself. Doing a bit of research first can be helpful — you want to take into consideration the cost and hassle of shipping something yourself before making a purchase.
