Many of us here at Unplgged own an DSLR camera and we’ve had our share of debating whether it’s worth it to lug the heavy and expensive thing around on hiking or beach trips. We’re sure a lot of people are in the same boat, which is why we were so excited when we came across Capture, a camera clip system for cameras of all sizes – including DSLRs.
Capture is a camera clip system that not only lets you securely hold your camera, but provides easy access because you aren’t storing it in a bag. Capture was engineered for durability because obviously not many people would feel secure merely clipping their SLR onto a belt loop or backpack strap. There’s a locking mechanism on the clip that is called the “strength release button” that can hold over 105 pounds.
An invention like Capture got us to thinking about other ways we could securely mount our cameras while on the move, not just on a belt or backpack. Capture also shows the future of possibly using the clip to mount a camera on a bicycle or car.

What other situations would you want to use your SLR for easy access?

I'm skeptical that having my camera hanging off my belt loop is any safer than having it hanging around my neck. I really don't mind using a hand to keep it steady. I spent good money on my camera. I SHOULD use a free hand to keep it steady when wearing around my neck. And I SHOULD use my custom camera back to keep it safe when not in use. It's not an inconvenience, it's respect for my equipment. It's a neat idea, but I don't see it as keeping my camera any safer, especially while hiking. I mean, I can just imagine the camera scraping up against boulders accidentally. Yikes!
i agree with tirzhaz, it's not super practical in terms of hanging off your belt (it'd also be pretty heavy)...but the bike idea could be cool...as long as you don't fall! :)
Two other camera holsters that have been around for a few years:
The Spider Holster $50

The Noah Camera Holster originally $98, now $30

I prefer the Crumpler Industry Disgrace neck strap. I've only seen men using the holsters - I would think the weight would hurt my hips.
ew, not only is that pseudo-cowboy gunbelt thing more hideous than the ubiquitous phone holster, it's also just asking for some "accident" to happen to your expensive equipment.
