We can't help but love a creative reuse project when it comes to the widely available material — shipping pallets. With the summer months ahead of us, this chair looks like the perfect place to catch up on some reading or simply enjoy the world around you. It only takes a drill and some rope, making it the perfect project for your own home!
We ran across this great diy tutorial over at Instructables where user Twotim221 set to work using discarded pallets and a little paracord to create this super cool hanging chair. Although this particular chair was suspended between two trees we can easily see it being anchored to multiple places in a backyard setting.
The process isn't difficult to master, just some strategically placed drill holes and some cord to bind things up properly, the chair provides the ultimate comfort as it conforms to the body of whomever sits down! See the full tutorial for all the details on making one for your own yard!

Wish I had something to hang it from!
gotta ask tho...does it pinch?
You do realize that most pallets are treated, don't you? And in fact if you touch them with bare flesh you will absorb those same toxins designed to kill mold and insects into your blood stream. Besides the fact that this is some of the roughest sawed wood around the toxicity of the wood makes this just plain stupid. Really a well thought out weekend project.
Gotta love the internet where anything people post is considered brilliant.
Do some research next time you idiot.

13ft - We feature many projects based around pallets. We'd much rather treat the wood, sand and seal than let that toxicity waste away in landfills affecting our ground water.
infact, most pallets aren't even treated anymore seeing as they often have very short lifespans. I've contacted 3 pallet makers in the area, and all of them say they cut the treatment out of their process to save money and avoid hazardous materials on their jobsites.
lets not forget, this is a start to a good idea, it doesn't have to be done with pallets, it could be reclaimed from fencing, or an old deck, or ripped down framing lumber. The other thing is that the average person trying this would most likely be into wood working in the first place, and most likely has the ability to plane it down, or get a heavy duty sanding pad to smooth it out.
The idea here, 13ft, is just that... an IDEA.. doesn't mean you have to run with it the way you see it, it's open to modifications! And just like sarahrae said, i'd much rather the beginning of an idea of how to reuse these things then tossing them in landfills.
I just love this, but I'm not handy (at all!). Have you thought about selling them, pre-made? Because you have a really great idea here.
Thanks for sharing!
I love how a person can disagree or not like an idea and the only way they are capable of saying that is by calling the person an idiot.
We're all grown ups here, right?
I don't care what 13ft says...I think this project is brilliant. Who says you have to use pallets anyhow...it certainly doesn't make the design any less wonderful. I can't wait to have a yard to employ this idea myself!
