After Renegade last week, I thought it was finally time to exercise my own creativity. But I am a little craft-challenged, so I turned to Maura Madden, author of Crafternoon...
Crafternoon has a project for each month of the year along with recipes for snacks and decorating tips. It's the perfect low-budget way to have fun with friends and to take everyone (except the most crafty) out of their element for some good old-fashioned fun!
For this project Maura suggested that we embroider napkins. One of my favorite crafters, Jessica Pigza, not only out-embroidered us all, but she also made the napkins that we used! The process was quite simple. First we outlined our design on the napkin (with a magic pen that washes off), then we freestyled it! Our hostess for the event, Rebecca Federman of Cooked Books provided snacks and made delicious Vodka Rosemary Lemon Fizz drinks. I didn't expect to have such a relaxing time embroidering with three other ladies. We only made one napkin each so it looks like we're going to have to do this again!
Would you consider crafting with friends?

White Enamel Flatwa...
A few of my friends and I used to get together after work once a week for "craft night". We'd bring our own craft to work on while we caught up with each other and drank wine. It was a good excuse to actually sit down and work on our own unique hobby plus spend time with each other. I was working on a quilt, another friend liked jewelry making, and another was doing all sorts of stuff. We had one friend who was finishing up her degree and didn't have time to start a hobby crafting, so she would just write notecards while we were chatting and crafting away.
That vodka rosemary lemon fizz drink looks and sounds so good. Will have to try that one soon.
Hmmm. This sounds like a program I could run at our Library. Thanks for the idea!
This seems cool -- I'm part of a nice Sewing Lounge in DC, DC Threads, but it meets only once a month and because it's mostly focused on sewing-machine sewing participation is basically limited to the number of machines on hand. I've been hoping to find something that included hand crafts other than knitting, which I don't do, and maybe this is it! Perfect for a library or a weekday in a bar with a back room.
