How To Light above Non-Recessed Medicine Cabinet?

Good Questions

Q: We realized the light fixture we selected to go above our medicine cabinet doesn't work because we are not recessing the cabinet into the wall. Because the medicine cabinet sticks out, the light fixture doesn't protrude from the wall enough for light to spill over the cabinet and not be blocked. Short of building some sort of "box" to attach the fixture to to align the light with the cabinet, we can't think of other possibilities. The medicine cabinet is the Godmorgon from Ikea... and I believe it is about 5 inches deep. Any suggestions?
