The George Nelson designed Platform Bench is a classic mid-century furniture masterpiece that is still widely in use today. With its simple shape and straight lines, the bench looks great in just about any setting. And, lucky us, we came across a tutorial for making a similar bench from scratch.

Now, this may not be a project for the woodworking novice and it does require a number of tools, but Chris, over at ManMade, put together a thorough tutorial on how to build your very own slat bench. As Chris points out in his post, the beauty of the slat design is that you can purchase the wood already cut to size, taking some of the work out of the equation. Plus, one of the great aspects of building your own slat bench is that you can make it any size you want.
