As we begin to think about switching our wardrobes over to fall attire we once again find ourselves drowning in give-away t-shirts from all of our summer activities. Rather than throw them out or pack them up for the donation truck, why not make a fantastic shag rug? Find out more about this great tutorial after the jump.
We spotted this great tutorial at Xoelle. Using only t-shirts and a few other inexpensive supplies she makes a cool rug for less. While she uses all white t-shirts and dyes them, we think it would look great with all of your colorful tees mixed together! Imagine it in a baby's room, as a bathmat, or by the back door.
What a fantastic way to get rid of those t-shirts that, let’s be honest, you’ll never wear again. Plus it's washable!

I wonder how long it takes to make one.. they look great!
I've seen tutorials similar before and love how they look but have to imagine vacuuming it can be a pain.
It's definitely more of a "take outside and shake between washings" rug and not so much a rug you'd vacuum.
I've actually gone out and purchased t-shirts at the Salvation Army (50 cents each) for the colorful designs, which I turn into throw pillows for friends (design is mounted on a straight weave, white linen background) but couldn't bear throwing them out. The sleeves make great cleaning cloths. Now I have a use for that stack of great colored t-shirts. Love this and don't mind the shake-out factor. That's what I do with all my smaller rugs anyway. Would be great to step on out of bed.
It also helps to be able to wash the rug, depending on your machine's capacity.
I am dying to make this!! I clicked on the xoelle tutorial, but the website does not work - do you have any suggestions as to where I can find one?
Thanks!
