We saw these in the latest issue of Small (an online magazine whose Winter 07 issue is out now) and were delighted to learn that not only can you buy them from the creator, she's willing to share how she makes them.
Aussie mom, Cheryl, makes and sells Lidmen both to delight children and to make use of small plastic lids which are not recyclable in most communities. She designs and makes each Lidman that she sells and notes that small children love the rattling sound they make when shaken.
Cheryl makes people, robots and animals out of lids - most sell for around $30 AUD. She also sells kits ($18) with 30 lids, string and instructions so you or or your kids can make your own.
If you want to save up your own lids, Cheryl provides a detailed tutorial on how to make them. She uses a drill and a lighter so these definitely require adult help and supervision. See the Lidmen tutorial here.
