Yesterday's post about Orca Design's concept for a Bottleneck Saver sparked a bizarre wave of nasty comments. Despite the negativity, the simple design inspired me to create my own soap saver for pump bottles. I re-purposed a foam ring designed to distinguish wine glasses at a party...

This quick and painless effort solved the problem of dispensing too much lotion (no matter how hard it was pushed). If I didn't already have the foam ring, a slice of a used cork could work well, too.

This is great: diy and thrifty.
nice!
Great Idea and quick too!!
Good job, Aaron!
although this is great for lotion bottles (as I know how difficult getting a small dose out can be at times) I still think that using a foaming soap pump is a better idea for soaps, it allows you to use far less soap and since they're refillable you can buy your soap in bulk (though I haven't had success with cream soaps in these, but maybe someone else has).
We've never gotten cream soap to work either, but love the foaming soap pumps. It really does take much longer to need a refill.... (great, thrifty idea, btw)
Looks better than the one for sale yesterday!
Thanks! I like to think I'm fairly thrifty where I can be! I still have bar soap too, but man, if you're having a party or something and the soap has had too many uses to dry out and instead is a gooey mess, it's when I admitted foam soap was the way to go, I love that you can just add a little water!
Does anyone know of a foaming soap pump that isn't from Dawn or another soap company? I am looking for one that is plain, maybe ceramic, you know like you can get for soap and lotion.
I like and appreciate this idea, and I like your hack. Personally, I just push down a tap to get just what I need, and sometimes I mindlessly take a whole "dose" and get mad at myself about it. Like people mentioned, this would be good in certain circumstances. Just like that post where people would be aghast to be asked to kick their shoes off when coming into a host's home, they'd probably be even more put out when asked to just tap a smidge of soap or hand lotion out of the bottles.
the only one I found that was more presentable was this one

Hopefully as they grow in popularity we'll see more variation, I'm still happy with the others though that are just a matte finish as all my products are in similar containers with no labels
I use one like the middle one in this photo... I re-read your comment, and I think I misunderstood what you were saying. You just want one without labeling I think.

They are all over the internet if you search foam soap pump and you should expect to pay approximately 5$ or less for a reasonably priced one.
Thank you CWillows! The one from solutions is perfect and exactly what I was looking for.
