I love happening upon a DIY project that the blogger says "lends itself to inexactitude." Holly at Chez Beeper Bebe, I knew I liked you. This set of alphabet magnets is infinitely cooler and safer than the plastic sets, and Holly calls it a "quick and dirty project." Sometimes that's the best kind!
Grab 26 different 8x4" pieces of fabric, cotton batting, white thread, 26 small magnets and card stock. The tutorial and letter template are available as a free PDF for download, just follow the link in the Chez Beeper Bebe post. If you aren't up for a project you can buy a set from Holly's etsy shop for $45.

What a fun idea! And with the magnets each thoroughly stitched in under a layer of cloth, there's not even any worry that they'll get eaten. If you use a serger on the edges (or make each piece so the raw edges are all inside), you could even run them through the washing machine. And if your family members have repeated letters in names, no worries, just make more of that letter....
LOVE this. Definitely on my to-do list now.
Thank you - love it!
ooh - I'm pinning this right now for future projects (now that I've finally joined the world of pinterest!). :)
My grandma made a set like this for my daughter with her old fabric swatches. She loves playing with them and they look oh-so-cute on the frig in my vintage-y kitchen!
So cute! I will have to remember this one. My whole family has been scared off of the plastic alphabet magnets since my brother took a trip to the ER when he was 2 after possibly swallowing one. (It turned out that he hadn't.)
We have some amazing prints that would be perfect for this project!
Check them out @ www.moodfabrics.com, and search for cotton prints!
I'm making this! What a fun idea. :)
