Q: I have just moved into a new apartment, and the living area is built so that the only possible way to orient my living room seating is toward a protruding corner where two walls meet.
I have already tried rearranging the furniture to face a different wall, but the room is quite small and so I am left with this predicament. I would like to mount my TV on the wall, and then just hang some floating shelves on either side for my cable box, DVD player etc. My question is: does anyone have a suggestion for how to mount a TV on such a corner? The angle is obtuse; I haven't measured but I would estimate about 130 degrees. Any ideas would be appreciated!

You could get a swivel-style tv mount. Mount it to one of the wall sides, then swivel it around to face the seating. It may not look great from the back, but it would point the tv in the right direction.
here are some amazon examples: http://www.amazon.com/Swivel-TV-Mount/lm/R15QADM8CASWN3
I have one that slides side-to-side, but doesn't swivel.
I agree, an articulated wall mount is probably your best bet. They're easy enough to install yourself, but you might want to consider a professional installation. Installers are insured, so if the TV falls off of the wall, they will generally cover the cost of a replacement.
One thing to consider when mounting the TV is that with the swivel there will always be part of the TV with a corner sticking out. Just be mindful of keeping enough space for walkways so no one runs into it in the middle of the night while getting a glass of water.
Best of luck!
I also agree to use an articulated mount. I also highly recommend getting it from monoprice.com
Are you allowed to modify the wall? What's behind it? If there's room, a drywaller could create a flattened niche to house the TV. Rough mockup: http://i45.tinypic.com/33osdqd.jpg
For the cable boxes and such, look into a wireless IR repeater. That would allow you to put the boxes anywhere in the room and still be able to use your remotes. That looks like a high-traffic corner, and I'd worry about putting too much stuff on the walls that juts out too far into the room. People will be banging into it if it sticks out too far.
a floor plan w/ measurements really would help here
