We always admire living walls and living roofs. They're beautiful, and they're a way to incorporate more green into a small outdoor space. They're even a little trendy. But we've never thought of planting or designing our own living wall ... until we saw this how-to over at Sunset magazine.
We still probably won't plant our own living wall anytime soon (we don't have the skills or the space); however, we're filing this article away for the future.
According to Sunset, you can plant a living wall in 3 steps. Of course, those three steps seem a little complicated to us (we don't really have green thumbs, unfortunately). And the price tag is a steep one. For the materials and the watering system, the wall pictured cost about $4,825 to create.
All in all, the effect is gorgeous. We're imagining the wall recreated on a smaller scale—it seems more doable and affordable that way.
What do you think?

This is one of the most beautiful examples of a living wall I've seen! I wish there were more detailed instructions and illustrations on how to actually build this.
